For many -- myself included -- the buttons and encoders make it much easier to play as a musical instrument. When I buy a digital instrument I'm not just buying the sound engine, I'm also buying a specialized controller for playi

This is me, it was my pandemic hobby and then it just stuck. I’m still terrible on pretty much every front but I’m constantly improving. Take your time with modular. It’s easy to get carried away and overspend. Each module is deeper than

Bankruptcy essentially makes you a financial pariah for 7 years; e.g. landlords can (and do) deny housing applications over past bankruptcy.

One hypothesis: it’s too expensive. Total cost (including an attorney) for declaring bankruptcy sits around $2500 and at one point the article points out that her bank account is $900 overdrawn. If you’re in that situation, $2500 might as

No, that’s totally reasonable. I was and still am a supporter of the ACA and I think the price tag for this site was bonkers. I just think it’s a shame that it’s politicized because we can’t easily discuss it as a case study without pre-ex

It’s not at all like sales quotas. The salesperson’s upside is directly linked to their quota, they are incentivized to fudge it as much as they can. What’s the incentive for a developer to inflate their estimate? The only reason I have to

Unfortunately the cost of healthcare.gov has become politicized, but it was extremely, absurdly expensive. Wikipedia says the total cost actually landed somewhere between 1.7b and 2.1b. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/

If you like the music from demoscene, much of it was written on a tracker sequencer: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_tracker . I've been playing with Polyend's hardware tracker recently and I love it. If

Came here to say this. Activision has been such a poor steward of Blizzard's properties that I find them largely unplayable. It may be unlikely that Microsoft will course correct away from data-drive, engagement-focus mtx games, but I

YC focuses on product-market fit so it's not uncommon to see a YC company start as something that just looks like a single feature. The product objective of doing this is to gather some early user feedback so you can grow and refine t

As a fellow YC founder, I agree with everything you've said here. This article wrongly characterizes the YC experience. I think the author is attempting to apply a normal VC incentive structure to YC, but YC positions itself a little

I’m an anecdote, but I deal with chronic pain that is thankfully well-managed at the moment. When it wasn’t as well-managed my experience was that apathy among medical professionals was the norm and compassion was the exception. I’ve had p

How would this work? I’m pragmatic about the division of public/private responsibilities, so I’m not opposed to the idea, but accommodations are highly specific to the impairment and how it affects the person. I’m not sure how the gov

Accommodating disabilities is cost center and and failing to do so is a liability. Businesses use loopholes to “opt out” so they don’t have to deal with those things.

I’m disabled. 2023 has been all about re-entering the workforce for me and I couldn’t have done it (yet, anyway) without WFH. I know that the return to office is vogue now, but I really hope we don’t forget that many of us are only able to

This is me as well. I’m not very good at memorizing things so I have to build a mental model of a system that I’m working in and extrapolate. It gives me a lot of anxiety to be in that trough before it clicks.
