I didn't claim that film was inferior or superior to digital -- in fact, I shoot mostly film and run a color darkroom in my home. You may not recall, but at the time, 2006, there were many articles declaring the death of film. The film mar

Not to mention that most glass plates are hand coated and very slow. However, the media and the camera that shoots it is a tool. Large format glass plates are not the right tool for a wedding. They are better suited to portraiture or land

Some context for those unfamiliar -- Ken Rockwell is considered to be a bit of an agitator in some photography circles and this particular post is comparable to Zed Shaw's "Rails is a Ghetto" in infamy. At the time there was a lot of sensat

I wouldn't sweat it. I think I had almost no karma when we applied. I don't think it hurts you as much as it can possibly help you. If you have lots of intelligent comments, it's one more reason to put you in the "interview" pile. I thin

I don't think "better" is really a consideration at the Holga or LOMO factories. :-) A guy that knew who was very serious about doing sharpness testing on lenses pointed out that lens resolution doesn't really matter that much. He claimed

I've read this complaint many times on HN, but my real world experience just doesn't match. All the employees from startups in our YC round, that I've met at parties, meetups and other events seem to be pretty amped about what they're work

I'm not entirely certain that Holga is a 35mm lens on a 6x6 film transport, but it is plausible. I have never looked to closely at a Holga -- it's not my preferred tool. I suspect that the chromatic and anastigmatic aberration that are cha

How is being so popular that you can churn your product out fast enough a disaster? Sounds like a resounding success to me! If you make something that people are desperate to own, time heals all wounds.

I would say that regardless of where you live, you should shed 2/3 of your cars. Cars are very expensive to own, and if you're a pre-money startup, you need to save money. Everything takes longer than you think.
