Not to mention what anyone who's worked in an office with a shared kitchen can tell you - the smell getting into a car where an indeterminate amount of people have eaten different meals. Like climbing into a food court dumpster.

Well to elaborate on what I meant - Spotify makes it extremely easy to have access to your music everywhere. Once you get into (or back into) storing MP3s you have to solve that for whatever level of convenience you want. I have Plexamp a

Another reason to use Bandcamp and just buy music. Of course then you've gotta setup a whole stack to store it, make it available to your devices, etc etc. I dunno, Spotify certainly isn't going to get better at this point. B

Boot spammers off your platform, stop them from coming back. Its a moderation issue, the more companies want to pretend like its not their problem - the worse it gets.

This is the correct assessment. This is not up to the open source community or individual projects to "figure out", any more than its up to me to figure out how not to get spam email.

Its amazing to me how annoying these problems can be and there's no real one size fits all solution. I have a desktop PC and macbook, and two monitors. I use a KVM and also switch inputs on the monitors themselves. I tried very unsuc

I wonder what Hacktoberfest would look like now if they were still giving out t-shirts to everyone. Probably not enough cotton in the world. It can't be on individual maintainers to stop this, imo its on Github (and Gitlab) to stop th

I keep hoping that Apple is going to pull out some sort of local LLM you run on your larger/more capable Mac hardware and then has a slick interface for control from your iPhone and iPad. I think/hope they've realized that u

My wife doesn't like it when I tell the story of the hard drive I threw away with a wallet with 2 dozen BTC on it. But lets be honest - when BTC hit 100 bucks, we would have cashed it out thinking we were geniuses.

Starlink itself is profitable but the insane valuation they're trying to get for the IPO is based on an assumed continued massive growth of users - and even then I don't think Starlink by itself makes SpaceX a trillion dollar com

Who knows, I mean it would certainly make it easier for them to turn the entire population into their bag holders. Don't even have to hype the company any more or spin up a bunch of bullshit about space.

I'm more worried about the early inclusion into the Nasdaq 100 index and if other indexes will follow. I don't want my retirement to be passively buying Elon's latest shell game.

It seems disingenuous to assume that CF offering some (unknown) amount of service to a malicious actor amounts to "blackmailing" someone that actor is attacking. CF could, and probably should, be better about not offering service

I've been thinking about it as a sort of debt. My team sees AI as nothing but a positive. Work gets done faster, what's not to like. I think the piper will need to be paid at some point when we look back and realize how a) comp

This is how I feel about things. Its like someone is demanding that I become a manager, when I was perfectly happy being a IC. And now I have to figure out how to be a manager of AI agents while at the same time not lose my ability to jud

This post does not make the claim that "you should know everything about everything you work on" - its making the claim that writing code and being able to read code effectively are intrinsically linked.

I'm surprised Garrett Langley still has a job, he seems wildly out of touch. For instance he really believes that his Panopticon as a service is the reason crime is down in cities, conveniently ignoring crime rates prior to COVID.
