Once it's written, I always make the association between 'anospic' and 'average numbers picked' (using that as an example). I try to make the names both human-readable and at least somewhat related (a:average nos:numbers pic:picked). Keep i

That is true. When I do Objective-c using Xcode (glorious IDE), variable length is a non-issue. Ruby on TextMate is a different story, though.

What I like to do is add a variables.txt file to the root of the project as a sort of legend for any unconventional variables I have to name. I try to stay as relevant as possible, but sometimes 'anospic' is better than 'average_numbers_pic

That would be a good thing, yeah. Maybe let me write these macros with javascript (which they could interpret on the server side) or any popular scripting language that fits the bill.

It looks very nice in theory, but for me, this is a terrible idea. It looks like a great way to wake up stressed and upset. Adjusting your sleep schedule is better for your body and sanity than any complicated alarm clock systems.

That's fine and dandy, and I love Heroku, but recently I've been falling in love with Parse(.com) for iOS development. True, Heroku gives me more control over how I want to handle requests, but Parse has so much more built in and is simpler

I'd say traditional universities will most likely move to similar platforms rather than just going extinct. This is because Universities provide more value than just the classes, like research.

You're not alone. I personally experienced in many of the different places I lived in as a teenager, from places where you almost never get carded at all, to places where the threshold is 15/16.

No they don't, you can still use your favorite text editor and use the command line to build, or use Titanium Developer which still works.

Someone almost always ends up with those legacy devices, usually someone with a dumber genetation of phones, so at least part of that replacement cycle ends up being growth.

When I think of limiting the size of government, I don't necessarily think about capsizing the physical size of it, but limit the amount of power it has via laws. It'd be ideal if a couple of laws could be passed to limit or restrict the po

No, MegaUpload was shut down after years of investigation, not because big music companies got wind of their recent plans and bribed the FBI or something. I'm a bit concerned as to how things went down, but honestly, MegaUpload had it comin

I find this to be reasonable for overfunded project. Release only the funds they requested for, until the milestones are met.

Say someone posts a link to a website that shows a technical description of how to crack some form of DRM, which is something a good portion of the HN audience would be interested in. One of the companies that use that DRM could get HN shut
