I hate to say it, but this is just a rant by a RedHat/CentOS admin who has started using Debian/Ubuntu for the first time and just doesn't know why things are done differently there.

So, I have been doing network engineering and sysadmin kind of stuff since the 90s. I remember when Cisco bought the PIX firewalls from Network Translation around 95/96. Cisco has killed competition here by paying out the other compan

I've set up my own home security monitoring in the past using a camera, Zoneminder, and other tools. Zoneminder is not that great, and I would love to have a packaged commercial solution which isn't too locked down from it's

It should be noted that MIUI is also a rampant GPL violator. They have taken a lot of open source stuff under the GPL, among other licenses, and closed it off or even claimed as their own. This probably isn't shocking given the article. ht

I would strongly recommend tmux over screen to anyone, if it is available on your platform. Screen's development is basically dead. Tmux is under active development, and the developers are responsive and intelligent. Tmux is sudo safe, whe

I am still toting around a Nexus One, and finally going to get a new phone. I've been looking at both the HTC One and the Samsung S4. The S4 has the huge advantages of having an SDcard slot (up to 64GB) and a replaceable battery. The HTC On
