My phone has wireless charging; I used to use it, but I eventually switched back to wired charging. Why? Two reasons, which I think are the biggest ones that explain why wireless hasn't completely taken over wired: efficiency and relia

That's an interesting response, though this blog post seems to refute its statement that it's only done when the user explicitly turns on Mi Cloud.

In addition to the other commentors' responses, I'd like to point something out: when you use Verizon to send an SMS, you know that they can read it (and may or may not actually store it), whereas in this case, it was being done

Did you guys change your name from Pwnies? Too bad, I liked that name :( Glad to see you're still actively developing this, though -- I've used it more than once :)

A great resource is PicoCTF, which, although designed for high schoolers, is a pretty good way to get into the scene: https://picoctf.com (It was from PicoCTF that I went from knowing nearly nothing about security to qualifying

Hm, do you know how? I'd guess certificate pinning, which would be rather prudent of them, but I'm not sure.

As a dissenting opinion, I like this pattern. I generally don't move my mouse over something unless I want to interact specifically with it.

Not working for me on Chrome 37 OS X, interestingly enough. Error in console is 'Uncaught ReferenceError: gapi is not defined'. My bet is on an HTTP/HTTPS discrepancy, but I'm not sure.

You should try some "real" hacking some time! That is, the kind the scary-looking criminals do, but for good (or simply fun). CTFs are probably the best way to get started -- check out PicoCTF, one specifically for high schoolers.

Eh, I suppose I could do that; I did have a Facebook account for a couple years, but I deactivated it a couple months ago, mainly over privacy concerns[0]. I could create a new account specifically for this, but I'd be worried that I&#

As someone currently working on a type inference scheme himself (although for a completely different purpose) and who is a Rust programmer, this sure was an interesting article! The inner type theorist in me says that losing any amount of e

I've often seen OCaml compared to F#; as someone who knows Haskell and Rust (among others), which is better to learn? I'm not really a Windows guy, which makes me think OCaml, but I've seen that Xamarin now works with F#, whi

It's probably a case of selection bias as well :) Most of my friends are the nerdy programmer types, so perhaps it's natural that we're not interested much in cars (although I feel that sentiment among my not-so-geeky friends

I can certainly anecdotally confirm this. The only reason I'm even in the process of getting my license is because my parents want me to, and many of my peers are similar in that regard. Additionally, when my dad got a new car recently

What don't you like about the native client for Spotify? I (on OS X) find it quite nice, actually. (Maybe you're speaking of the Linux client, which I haven't used in a while.)
