So, why exactly do these academics infuriate you? I'm quite clear if you read more than one sentence. It's the way this guy responded to a comment of a blog about the paper. It just seems like a bad place to post a real unfixable flaw to

All these academics that lay low then pop up with problems and call Deolalikar's contribution unfixable infuriate me. They bring out the worst in the same way that bad QA employees do. They create no wealth and add little value. They slow d

The literal or ironic interpretation? Or maybe a little of both? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Road_Not_Taken_(poem) Personally I've always appreciated it in it's literal interpretation. Maybe this is why I could never truly appreciate

This has got to be the greatest thing MSFT has done for the web since Ajax. I don't know; maybe I'm missing something. Assuming they aren't going to patent it or something similarly insane. And assuming it works in a normal browser. There i

Most, as usual, miss my point or are trying to argue some other point. Many people get your point but don't comment to say so. Making (pithy sarcastic lol agree simple rude first ...) comments is generally unacceptable on HN unless you ar

There is a broader underlying cause for these addictions. We can't adapt our culture fast enough to address technological change. What applies to these new addictions equally applies to our laws and other social customs. And through other p

Shouldn't the included templating system be the one everyone uses? Agreed. I think they know that this is a weakness. I'd expect it to improve over time. In a similar fashion to them addressing ifequal and ifnotequal in 1.2. Capitalizati

Just over a year ago I got a dell mini 9 with linux for my dad. There was no way he was going to use linux. It just confused him and nothing worked without first taking some action or involved explanation. It was all just too much for him.

I thought it would be fun to watch these when I had some downtime during a flight I'm taking next week. Two problems - they stream them and they are real one files. No idea why they make it so difficult. Solution for .rm files -> VLC [1

I agree this was frustrating initially. After a certain number of django projects most of the django devs I know use the heck out of it's modularity. If the templating system is driving you insane drop in Jinja2 and go. If it just needs to

This is what I was thinking. Knuth's up arrow on Graham's number. I like the addition of the busy beaver function. A creative improvement for sure. So far I think you win :) for the lazy amongst us: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knuths_up-a

I bought NetShare when it was briefly on the app store and it still works. Or at least it did last time I was at my cabin a few months ago with my 3G. If they were going to kill an app, I'd assume they would have killed that. And they didn'

I recommend using 1.2 head. Even if you are learning clojure I'd recommend 1.2 head. With clojure, unlike most other languages, using head is relatively easy, it's stable and faster and it has more features. Pretty much a win from most pers

Yeah that is great rebranding. All it needs now is 'try Racket in your browser' and a video of some dude making a blog in 15 minutes using Racket. Then it will be the new hotness. You're using it now. Arc was built on top of PLT and news.
