It may seem intentional. I think that Apple only cares about integrating Apple products. This means they launch features which competitors cannot participate in. Can you blame them? Enabling third parties to act as 1st class citizens means

You're correct. Now imagine that the vast majority of teachers focused more on wearing funny hats to engage students than teaching them the material - because schools paid them more for that. Parents would probably be interested in alt

This is great hindsight advice. It may be hard to see from the perspective of the OP though. The way you describe is how it is in FAANG (I work at one, haven’t at others). Until you get to a certain level, you implement what others (PMs, hi

Consider using something like https://google.aip.dev/ . Consistency across an API surface is more valuable than local optimizations.

Interesting. I look at my children and the realization that I will likely die before them and miss out on a part of their life reminds me of my mortality.

Sorry for your loss. Thanks for sharing this. I interviewed both of my parents (separately) several years ago and recorded the video and took notes that I transcribed. They are both still living but these are some of the most valuable digit

Exif does not store time zone information [1] and it would be up to the capture device to include any offsets directly in the date/time stored. Phones can do this because they have gps and know which time zone the photo was taken. Your

EXIF is the greatest thing about photos and videos. It makes every photo a tiny portable database of itself. A library of photos is a collection of these tiny databases which share a schema. Doesn’t matter what device takes the photo - and

I've always viewed "purpose" as a very personal thing that I get to determine. My purpose has changed throughout my life and probably at quarter centuries (and not just mid-life). I think the point of this exercise is to reev

The suggestion here being that hiring is a strategic play by Google to prevent startups from forming? I think a much better play is to let the startups form at no cost to you and buy them if/when they show signs of success.

In my experience on small teams that I've been on - a key motivator for people is shipping products and features. The sooner and more frequently you can do this the more positive reinforcement there is for the entire team - not to ment

That’s my perception as well but I believe it is flawed. I don’t work at Facebook but I imagine their business is run off the vast data they collect from users. Somehow, the increase of ads must be increasing revenue in a more material way

Getting your content onto a Medium publication with a large and/or relevant following is such useful method of distribution. All of my most widely read Medium posts have been via a publication that I reached out to.

I agree that some, not all, wages in HCOL areas are very bloated. That's not always the case though and I imagine it's not the case for HR groups within Twitter.

Agree. I think money is sort of like a house. No matter how large or how much, it'll get filled or used. Discipline in both will go a long way in not having a big house full of unused rooms and money that's not wasted.

In all fairness, this applies across the board. I agree with you on financial responsibility residing with the individual. $100k in a LCOL or $300k in a HCOL is sufficient to have an emergency fund. And in the same way that layoffs in a LCO
