From the other comments in the linked article, it looks like they hired more than one person that relocated from another city and were let go in < 1 week of starting employment. I agree with you that it's a business and they are alw

I must work at the wrong places (non-Valley). Maybe that used to be common, but in recent years I don't see that for regular employees at all. Maybe for some layers of management.

I find the same thing. My neighbors and I have chickens on ~5000 sq ft fenced lots and you barely notice them, especially when compared with the local bird and insect population. My neighbor has a rooster and even that isn't a large

I'm not from Seattle nor do I live in Seattle, but I'm pretty sure this is not the case. There ARE other cities with a lot of quality, diverse tech jobs outside of the Bay Area. I live in one of them and I don't consider i

I stopped going to the general reddit homepage and only go to a couple subreddits. I have found the subreddit for my city is a great supplement to local news sites - it often aggregates local-focused content plus discussion very well.

This is something I manage pretty easily without a lot of fuss using a spreadsheet and one bank account with my 1099 business. I do a small volume of transactions with higher dollar values, so this might appeal more to high-volume business

This is a huge point. The same thing is happening in other attractive pacific rim cities. In Auckland, they are experiencing the same problem as SF and Vancouver but the government is very active in encouraging new housing development. Be

You can tell what's probably NOT 'farm to table' by the pricing of dishes. Many restaurants would not be in business selling food at the prices they do if were actually farm to table direct from local farmers who uses the gr

In my area, I see some chefs at the weekly farmer's market buying meat, fish, and produce directly from local farmers. To me, that is 'farm to table'. Anything else is questionable, but could be. I believe buying from whole

SQLite definitely does not require a filesystem interface, or even standard OS interface. It does require some kind of storage, though, but that could be direct flash, RAM, etc. I have spent a lot of time with it on ARM Cortex-M-class devi

I don't disagree with you, but mbed TLS and other similar libraries partly exist to solve the need for high-quality crypto/TLS in very small operating environments, where it may not be possible or easy to use OpenSSL. They are de
