No, I was definitely not hearing high pitch when noise cancelling was on. I was hearing it when I removed the headset after using it of a few hours. It usually disappeared the next day. One time though i could still hear the high pitch for

Not specific to AirPods: I’ve had the same issue before with Bose Quiet Comfort 25. After using noise cancelling a few hours for a few days I was having this high pitch issue for a day or two. So not a permanent tinnitus (for me), still doe

Quite a milestone for sure but let’s not paint it as if it was an unexpected shock. Only the high-end equipment were still made or assembled in Japan. A big part of Nikon products have been made in Thailand and China for years if not decade

Probably because the iceberg is 4200 sq km while Jamaica is around 4200 sq mi. Still, at 2/5 the size of Jamaica, this freely moving ice mass is enormous.

Discipline is all what matters, automatizations are imperfect and temporary tools. Simply put: all abstractions are leaky, all abstractions have trade-off, and you cannot necessarily rely on some abstractions in every context. The GC exampl

What about security / hacking threats? Say I have precious metal in safes at some banks, good luck to steal it from me overnight. Now imagine people get a digital wallet on their smartphone. It's now easier to rob them of their li

Exactly. An oath means nothing: what you need is skin in the game. Some health practitioners are literally bought by Big Pharma, by their hospital accountant, etc. How would an oath fix that? Same with engineers or any other discipline.

I've always used a sticker (black dot-shaped) or a piece of post-it note. Post-it is really convenient but it's ugly. I still think the best solution would be to have no builtin camera or microphone. Just have something like the

So, COBOL is lindy. Not because it's more efficient but because a complete rewrite is still more expensive and risky. Though I hear now and then that parts of those systems are being rewritten gradually (usually in C# as COBOL runs on
