To me the golden age of programming was the 60’s and 70’s when gods walked the earth who thought up pretty much all of the stuff we use or do. Networking, operating systems, languages, …. Hackers, for the most part, did it because it scratc

Don’t follow, participate. Don’t forget yourself in the rush, as you’re the only thing left when it’s over. But try to take some folks along with you for the ride. In short, be somebody people want to have around.

No grants, no tenure. No tenure, no career. In chemistry, there’s a commercial path in biotech/pharma, but I’m not sure there’s a similar one in biology. Certainly not in physics. If you want to be an academic, and there’s appeal ad

This still looks like immigration theatre to me. They’re pulling people off the streets without a lot of concern as to their specific status. However, I’m unaware of any action against the people and companies who hire and profit from ill

Ya wonder who he’d do something like this, given that nobody would think it relevant after purchase - just another echo chamber. Maybe he just wants to kill it? Or he’s too self-centred to understand how he’s viewed? Or maybe he just like

People, hold on to the things that matter as you never know when they’ll be gone. Somehow, balance the drive to succeed with what is important and keeps you whole.

This seems to refer to software innovation, and it’s an open question whether much of the recent developments in software are innovations or “innovations”. Some people prefer privacy and less intrusive options…. European pharma/biotec

If iOS development requires a Mac, then it’s relevant. If that’s not the case, then it’s basically a vanity project that could be discarded if a downturn appears. It’s harder to develop Unix-y software on a Mac, so that’ll not keep it ali

This seems to suggest carrying with a chambered round. Is this prudent without an external threat? They can drop the thing, or some kind of impact can yield a “design problem”. Can’t they just chamber when there’s a need?

Don’t know what workers want from AI but their employers want “fewer workers”. So, maybe workers should want things like “more hallucinations” or even “hallucination caused lawsuits”? Anything to protect their jobs.

Goes along with tariffs I guess. Charge more for your products and automate away workers. They’re certainly not proposing paying people more or reducing profits…

I think at least one astronaut needed to file a request for tax deadline extension due to being “out of the country” at filing time. Didn’t have an entry in the system for “off the planet” I guess…

Unless you have the magic ticket, a career is a 30-40 year journey. Better to take it with others than going it alone, as you’ll need other people when your cachet fades in the second half. Looking back, I recommend working to live over l

Few, if any, of those making the AI decisions will be present in 5 years. Many of the companies will not be present, either. A 3, maybe 6 month window is like “forever” for such people. So, given this reality, catch the wave and sell (right
