The common internet meme is “Canadians have two modes. ‘Sorry’ and ‘You’ll be sorry.’” And the latter has been triggered. It’s a big world, tourism and travel is discretionary and people are pissed. There’s a goods boycott going on as we

They reduced the debt under Clinton. It’s a question of political will not physics. US taxes are low compared to their counterparts and they could choose to raise these taxes for various activities.

Downvoted? You must be thinking of the success women have as senior politicians and military officers. Or the societal rejection of viewpoints like incel, tradwife or manosphere.

One would hope, as the Eurofighter is a 20-year-old design. There are older fighters that serve their purposes quite well, but the F35 will end up being compared against fighters yet to appear. And I wonder whether any of these birds will

‘Nam ended in the early 70’s and I think the student deferment ended before the war did. But it’s a good theory. Much of academia was probably not on board. Perhaps the war edited out some classes of students that influenced grades?

55 years of programming, 44 years professionally. I've been lucky to (mostly) do what I like to do, as long as I was willing to wander about the western world. I think the one question that's left is whether debugging is a skill

Grade inflation and automatic promotion had nothing to do with Covid - it was occurring when at uni in the 70's, with dean's list definitions changing to reflect higher GPA's. Covid isolation might have made things worse, bu

If they want to be in academia, they need grant money and students (and post docs). If they are unable to get this stuff, they have to leave academia or go where they can be acquired. I assume “academia” means research uni’s not teaching c

I think it best to go through life making an effort to not be an asshole. If you’re smarter than everybody else, they’ll notice it from what you do not what you say. Those who can’t “do” risk being called or considered a crank and Watson mi

Thought of CSNY's Chicago when I saw the headline. And, actually, it's pertinent. Except that things are probably worse now as there's no media scrutiny on what's going down.
