Try tcmalloc. Among the many problems with glibc's malloc (when I tested, anyway) is that it slows down considerably as soon as you start up a thread, even if you immediately shut it down.

Merely making an HTTP request to a site -- any HTTP request, as far as I'm aware -- is sufficient for that site to set a cookie on your machine. If on the other hand the site wants to store something in localstorage, the site has to run JS

I don't know if that's an oversight or an intentional omission, but "Firefox Engineering" is code for "Firefox front-end coding". That may or may not be the sort of UI/UX work you're interested in. If you want to do an internship and do de

I was just talking about this with some other Firefox developers today, actually. So...yes, there's a chance. Not a very big one, mind you. But a guy can dream!

Have you guys thought about memory management in the ArrayBuffer "heap"? One can decommit pages from a real heap, which can be a pretty important optimization.

Firefox is quite complicated; we have code written in C, C++, JS, Python, Make, m4, plus at least three custom IDL formats. grep handles these with ease.

I regularly search my whole Firefox clone for keywords. If this takes 2s, that's plenty fast; if it takes 20s, I'd have to come up with some other way of doing it.

Ironically enough, I think this guy misunderstands TSP. I wrote this comment on his blog: Let's define a new problem, TSP-cost-optimize, which returns the cost of the best Hamiltonian. It's NP-Complete, because it reduces to TSP-decide: J

The OP's suggestion has nothing to do with net neutrality. Net neutrality is about the /network/ being neutral to what it carries. The network should deliver skype, or google, or HN, or whatever, and treat them all the same. The network o

I wonder if this actually teaches you the right kind of muscle memory. I have no difficulty with hjkl for navigating in Vim, but I had trouble associating those keys with the string "move <up/down/left/right> one character". Mapping

Maybe I lack the proper zen, but I haven't found this to be true at all. Here's a good bash FAQ. It contains questions like "how do I use associative arrays", with answers like "this is a complex question." I don't even have to ask in an
