Maybe part of the problem is that Facebook and Twitter are positioning themselves both as social networks and as media outlets. As a social network, they should protect users from obscenity and hate speech, but as a media outlet they real

My feeling is that focusing on Twitter and Facebook's response is missing the point completely. Trump's threats were repugnant and disgusting, but it's not Twitter or Facebook's place to tell people that. It's impo

I think you're forgetting that monetary cost is only one way of assessing value. To me, it doesn't sound like the OP is suffering much at all, and they see the increased monetary cost and inconvenience as a worthwhile trade off to

For the benefit of everybody else, #+ does feature checking. The Common Lisp standard defines a standard "special variable" (kind of like a global) named * features * (shouldn't be spaces, but HN italicizes it otherwise), and

I don't buy that argument. Game console developers don't develop on the device they're targeting, and it hasn't really hindered them. So why do mobile devs need to develop on those devices? Mobile form factor and UI j

You're missing the point. People don't want "nothing" up there, they want the keys that belong there. It's great that it doesn't bother you, but some of us use those keys. It have an easy solution, though... I

The most annoying is the way it handles updates. There's no easy way to turn off auto-update (I get updates via my package manager), and the functionality in Firefox is completely broken. It downloads the update and then refuses to o

Nothing is dropped. At a very high level, it works like this: New versions of stuff go into Unstable. When they've been tested a while they get pushed to Testing. Periodically Testing is frozen and branched into a new Stable release.

Seems like they could cut out a lot of that code by using macros. Here's a quick and dirty Common Lisp script that reads the CSVs from the .zip file and generates classes at runtime using the headers in each CSV for the slot names. I
