That sounds fair to me. On the other hand, pre-COVID I quit a job and took a pay cut to get a fully remote one, so it's a trade-off I'd personally be willing to make.

Does that matter, though? The message I get is that Okta isn't good with security, and they're not good at choosing vendors who are good with security.

NetFlix, Hulu, and HBO aren't trying to spy on everything I do online, and there's no evidence that paying for YouTube stops Google from doing that.

I think that's what I don't like about it, also. It seems like it gives me recommendations too similar to what I'm already listening to.

That hasn't helped any. I have almost 1100 liked songs, several dozen liked albums, and several years of near daily listening. The recommendations are still less good (for me) than what YouTube recommended without an account, just ba

There's a ton of stuff like this, where the original artist isn't on Spotify, but these "covers" are: https://open.spotify.com/track/6t6VE10ixs4wyyIgAbJzvz https://open.spotify.com/a

That's interesting - I usually don't like Spotify's recommendations. Youtube was much better at that IMO, but I've tried to stop using it due to the Google connection. I don't really know where Bandcamp stands - I&#

Depends on the situation. My current job is primarily using a new-to-me language (C#) on a platform I hadn't used in 10 years (Windows), and though I have some buyers remorse (Windows is still terrible), everybody was on the same page

Looking at it from the otherside, what incentive is there for them to pay teams developers to build Unreal Engine, and then let you use the technology for free and get nothing when your product takes off? By all means, if you don't lik

Meh. People knew when they bought in that the platforms were closed. If they wanted "open platforms" they should've bought PC games.

I know this is personal preference, but in the past 10 years I've used Google Chat, HipChat, Slack, and Teams, at 3 different companies, and I honestly feel they're all "good enough" to collaborate and get work done. No

The workers are not always there. A lot of resort companies, like Vail Resorts, will bring in H2B and J1 visa workers [0] and put them up in employee housing for the winter. They could hire plenty of US workers if they'd pay enough, b

I still miss the original Opera browser. It was lightweight and fast, but still managed to have a built-in mail client, RSS reader, and IRC client. All with a consistent and clean UI that treated the user like an adult. Maybe I'm just

First of all, I don't know that would happen - it looks like the maintainers are open to the patches. And second, it's still not wasted effort if you get the fix that you need.

And??? Sometimes a bug just doesn't have the same importance to the maintainers as it does to you. If it's that important, fix it yourself.

It seems pretty optimistic to say it's "stabilized over the past decade". If I'm reading correctly, between 2011 and 2021 (the last year in the graph) there was an increase of 5 billion tons, and that was certainly helpe
