If you think that building software is like building bridges, then yes. If you think that it's the exploration of a problem domain that may not be known to you at the start of the process and is subject to various degrees of iteration

I recently had write up for a README how to install the JDK and set it up correctly on OSX. You'd be surprised. Thanks to Oracle's policies it isn't even close to where other runtimes/sdks are (e.g. installing ruby, node

Because if other parts of your stack don't depend on Java, you have the overhead of having to install a complete java environment (on dev machines, CI, ...) just for compiling your front-end code. It also makes "language independe

Quote from the article: "Rendering time dropped from about 4200ms in native AngularJs to 120ms using ReactJs." So just above 4 seconds. And yes, if you have an app where only one in 10000 pages need that sort of performance it mig

If we are talking non-mobile and it takes 4 seconds off the rendering time, then I'm not sure why it's not worth 112KB? Especially since the 4 seconds are recurring costs per page and the 112KB are spread over the whole interactio

I think his statement strongly implied that he was speaking about session ids of site he doesn't own. If you own the site, saying that "using the session ids would be illegal" is a stretch, at least without qualifiers. So, pr

The title is silly - but it means that when testing 3D applications (and even more so VR), it might be dangerous to only test it on males since that can lead to equipment that is not suitable for women. So depending on how much work the Ocu

To be honest when I read the title I kind of thought "okay, that'll be some bullshit". But it's actually just a really well written and interesting article with a silly/sensationalist title.

What is not clear about five eyes? Then you have China, maybe Russia. That's it. That leaves "rest of the world". Seems like pretty clear lines to me.

You realize that all nations you listed but China are pretty much "one and the same" as the US when it comes to NSA spying? You only underlined how disproportionally powerful that intelligence alliance is.

Maybe that was a misunderstanding: I didn't mean to say that interfaces should exist purely in the head of the programmer. I did say that implicit interfaces/protocols (Go, Objective-C) are better than interfaces that need shared

Can you give an actual example of the difference between composition and delegation? In my definition those two are just two different perspectives on the same thing.

The problem in Python and Ruby is less obvious because you rarely have big, nested closures. In JavaScript those are pretty common (module pattern, mocha test suites, etc.).

What would "defining an interface" even mean in a non-type checked language? I'd say: ECMAScript already has better interface support than Java has because it supports implicit interfaces. In Java two classes can only be inte
