There was similar post with ARM Chromebooks. A few years ago it was impossible to find stable ARMs which could sustain decent load without crashing. Company had to buy bunch of Chromebooks, strip batteries and put them into rack.

In my experience from communist Czechoslovakia, western stuff is not actually prohibited. It is illegal for peasants, but communist elite can enjoy all luxuries they can effort.

I counted dozens ATMs out of cash in Athens. And technically ATMs are still not working, since there are strict withdrawal limits. And card did not worked, otherwise Greeks would just raided shops, buy stuff, and empty their bank accounts.

I was in Greece a few weeks ago. ATMs did not worked, shops would not accept credit cards. Good luck without cash.

Runes are derived from Roman alphabet. 2000 years ago there was strong contact between Rome empire and 'German' tribes. Many nordict people worked in Rome army, latter they even occupied Sicily.

Nice problem to have. I work on database engine, and full test suite takes about 2 weeks. After adding concurrency test, it might take a few months. I started migrating to AWS spot instances to make this whole monster manageable.

I am sure helicopter can not be damaged, since it is much bigger. Blades at almost supersonic speed will slice everything like a butter. I seen it in movie. Firefighters are probably just worried about expensive drones ;-)

There is great sci-fi novel Voyage from Stephen Baxter which describes such minimal mission. It is alternative history where NASA landed on Mars in 1980-ties.

String on its own is inefficient class. There is extra pointer, int field... ASCII strings are not downgraded from char[] to byte[]... You get big performance bonus just by replacing String with raw byte[]. I wrote Map<String,String>
