The article you linked to says bloggers are not journalists by default. However, it does seem to indicate that "online news reporters" are protected. I suspect Gizmodo would be viewed as an online news source.

That's sort of beside the point. If people start freaking out about this, they aren't going to see that setting and say "Oh, I guess this is OK then". They're going to be angry that they were signed up for it in the first place without rea

This actually wasn't a surprise — I wrote about it a few weeks ago ( http://techcrunch.com/2010/03/27/facebook-privacy-connect/ ) and it was hinted at in Facebook's new Terms of Service. Facebook knows it could lead to some major backlash t

"The problem that this aims to fix is really a UI one, not a security one. If you know the user already uses Google accounts and Meebo, there is no need to over clutter your user interface with login buttons to 40 different social networks.

I suspect Apple's PR team plays a role in at least some of the email responses. The emails serve as a channel that's 'official' enough for people to take it seriously, without Apple having to bother with making an official announcement or

And don't forget a contact Email if you want press. Phone numbers are great too (perhaps consider one of those Google Voice widgets if you are hesitant to put your number on the web). Oh, and if you don't want your logo butchered it's alwa

Good idea, not-so-great execution. I think this would have been better if the author wrote in a more serious tone. I think the point is that if you want to, you can probably conjure a logical-sounding, professional explanation for just abou

Foursquare's game mechanics do get old, and they really haven't done much to change them since launch. I started playing Foursquare in March '09, was sick of the badges a month or two later, and haven't cared to check in much since. Granted

FYI, that Zynga/FB dating thing was a joke ;-). I'm sure many of you frown on April Fools day, but I enjoy getting the chance to show off my sense of humor (or lack thereof) once in a while: http://techcrunch.com/2010/04/01/facebook-to-lau

Stores will still have extra stock for people who didn't reserve one (just called Apple Store SF, though they didn't know how many they'd have). Also, Best Buy is apparently going to be selling them on launch day, though that isn't confirme

I think that the iPad and similar devices down the road really could change everything as far as print and multimedia consumption is concerned. But it's going to take a long time (years, perhaps) until these publishers are producing content

For those of you wondering if Apple is going to remove this from the App Store: they almost certainly won't. Line2 was first submitted to the App Store in August 2009, which was really bad timing because it was in the middle of the Apple/Go

Here's the comment Mozilla gave to me: "Mozilla is now aware of a post by MetaLabs that shows a Mozilla developer copying prior design work. The mockups they cite were an early proof of concept created by cut-and-paste, never final designs.

Sure. But none of them support the applications these developers have already built. It's one thing for Apple to set guidelines on what it's going to allow in the store. It's another thing entirely for it to not set guidelines, but instea

You can't judge how responsive it is based on the ad — Apple sometimes speeds up the performance of their apps/devices for commercials. This was especially obvious on the iPhone ads before the 3GS (and I believe they even added a small disc

Sort of neat, but this is from September 2008. The author's conclusion that this was a "good omen" was a little off the mark — many developers can't get anyone to answer their questions, much less Apple's CEO.

In-N-Out Burger might be a good fast-food equivalent to Apple. I have no idea if they focus test any of their food but they've had the same menu for ages. They do a few things very well, and there's also a mystique about the company.

Years ago I ran a small computer class at a retirement community. Every week there would be four or five "students" who showed up (usually the same ones every time). They were all very bright and funny, and I enjoyed every minute of it, e
