All I wish for is that more beginners would read (all of) "How To Ask Questions The Smart Way" http://www.catb.org/esr/faqs/smart-questions.html before asking. That would help a lot I believe.
Should I start with C++14 and skipped anything before that?
Yes! C++14 is a much better language than C++98 and you can be perfectly happy without most of the ugly details. Stick to the new nice ways of doing things and

To me this reads as "I can't use hardware xyz on linux". Well, that's no surprise. There's "wxy" hardware that you can't use with Windows or OS X as well. Today Linux supports the same amount (or more

You could try to hide it in several ways: 1) just don't say anything and hope nobody notices. 2) fix the underlying problem and then regenerate all keys and post some nonsense saying they had to do so for some "not their fault bul

At least they are aware of the issue and warning their customers. A lot of companies would just fix the issue (or not even that) and try to silently sweep it under the rug.

True. But the day I find myself in a company where that's the case. I'll quit. There has to be room for personal inspiration and activities and management has to know that they are not always right and acknowledge when personal in

I find this to be a really good reality check for new game programmers. It's a really simple game to make but most new people are still surprised at how complex it is to actually do.

You can't assume the object is not modified by a const member function if the class has mutable members.

Right. There are lots of corner cases that would need to be identified and considered in the case of a "strong const" C++ variant (like what you point out) - I still think it could be an interresting experiment.

Yeah. const_cast (and C-style casts) and mutable existing in the language make const pretty useless to the optimizer. But at least they are trying to get some benefit from it in some cases. A C++ variant (compiler flag) that would remove co

Well, they are actually trying to extract some meaning from it for optimization purposes, so I wouldn't call it 'ignored'. 'inline' would be a better example of another "ignored" keyword.
