How though? Users haven't used their phone in a day or more? How would they notice except for having to reenter their passcode which takes two seconds?

If this is such a security benefit why not do it after 24 hours instead? How many people go that long without using their phones? How many people are using their phones for some other purpose for which they want their phones to never reboot

You are essentially forced borrowing from the cash holders of the printed currency. So yeah it would work. Wouldn’t necessarily be fair or popular; but it would work. Just have to account for the new money also being worth less because of t

What if you like your work and you want to exercise/boost your VO2/stay healthy? What if it's dark and rainy outside where you live for quite a few months per year? What if you want to write a book while biking?

He already pulled the US out of the Paris accord his last presidency and the US is producing all-time high oil. I guess another angle is that he is best buddies with Elon who could potentially do some interesting things there.

This is like not giving them the password to your phone which I thought was protected at least in the US. They’re both literally keys.

If it’s happening systematically to almost everyone than the whole system has been calibrated to that. Probably want measurements to be slightly high to err on the side of caution anyways.

One benefit that I can think of for inlined code is the ability to "step" through each time step/tick/whatever and debug the state at each step of the way. And one drawback I can think of is that when there are more than

Like which ones do you suspect have done this? Many funds do not use these sorts of strategies and the ones that do almost always underperform after fees. So in aggregate there isn’t much evidence of outperformance.

Aren’t we usually coding for another goal though? Does shipping slow help us achieve those other goals? If we look at coding purely for the goal of coding and having maintainable code, then of course we should ship slowly. But that’s not th

My wife was a refugee in a war-torn country. The war ended and her family lives there peacefully for decades. It is possible. Not saying it always happens, I'm saying this is a reasonable thing for some people to do.

Wars do end though. It’s not like there are no exceptions to this. Lots of refugees want better economic circumstances too. It’s not always a threat of violence back home.

Here in Switzerland the yogurt has tons of sweeteners added. This is joy only an American problem. Other countries trail in obesity and diabetes but are quickly catching up.

Absolute numbers matter but growth m, or lack thereof, also matters for the future. If the economy isn’t growing it’s actually shrinking due to inflation.

For non-diabetics this is fairly easy to prevent (at least it is for me). You just eat a moderate amount of food before taking it (referring to metformin).

I'm trying to actually find a bookable first class flight that isn't twice as long or more than two stops. (Say ZRH->ATL). All of the flights I have tried mysteriously disappear when I go to United. How many people have actuall

To reformat your code for you. Quick two strokes should do it. I use Jetbrains and it’s select all -> alt ctrl L I think. Massive timesaver. Anything a computer can do to help coders good IDEs can do in the blink of an eye.

People that hunt and shoot guns their whole lives do not commit suicide at high levels. This is what I am basing my statements on. Basically half the people I know in the US fall in to this category.

Rifles would never do this. They probably usually/always wore ear protection during training. Even if not it wouldn't do it. Many civilians fire guns throughout their lives, often without ear protection. This would take a much big
