Kubernetes is very much a choose your own adventure, and it’s very easy for your infra people to choose an adventure through Dante’s 12 levels of SaaS hell. It doesn’t help that the popular tools like Helm or Kustomize are still so over-gen

So… if I ever decide I want to change the call stack of a lower level function… I’m going to break types that all my callers and callers’ callers and callers’ callers’ callers’ are depending on? Like, my call stack is enshrined in a type so

Nintendo sold an all-gray Switch 1, that’s the one I got. Yes this console does feel like a more “grown up” Switch but I don’t think it’s a sign of chasing after Steam Deck; switch has sold 2 orders of magnitude more copies than Valve ever

We tried both about 8 months ago, at the time DuckDB’s Node driver leaked memory and segfaulted, DataFusion was missing some features we wanted. But they are both improving rapidly.

Spark for sure I view with suspicion and avoid as much as possible at work. SQL though is going the distance. like Feldera is SQL based stream processing and uses DataFusion under the hood for some data wrangling. DuckDB is also very SQL. I

Your large db doesn’t sound very large. If I want to run a query that requires visiting every row of my biggest table, I will need to run the query a total of 480 times across 96 different Postgres databases. Just `select id from block` wil

There’s an interesting charm to using Mainland China apps which have different tendencies compared to US-first apps. The level of advertising popups and click jacking can sometimes be quite annoying.

AI can search your code today. In cursor this is called “codebase indexing”. We have some million(s) lines of code, orders of magnitude smaller than Facebook, but definitely larger than the average startup. We search with AI tools, through

Maybe this architecture approach would be challenging in Java or Go, but the style of immutable data, don’t go crazy wrapping stuff in classes is very doable in most languages. We enforce “no mutation of data you did not just instantiate” a

It’s good, I like it. I don’t use the logs product (we splunk) but I’m big fan of the automatic profiling and trace/span stuff. It’s like 50% better UX compared to other tools I’ve tried. But it’s expensive enough we’re always thinking

I agree for arbitrary hardware that’s out there, but SteamOS + Steam Deck are well tested and fit together tightly, and they “just work” to a much greater degree than Windows + ${equivalent hardware}. > Taking a hobbyist weekend project

I’m not a go language enjoyer, but I do think the tooling around the language is an excellent high water mark for developer experience that’s had a lot of influence on programming language space. Rust/cargo, gleam, the dotnet CLI you

Go is simple, and revolutionized the design of language-supporting tooling with its all-in-one compiler, dependency manager, formatter, test, etc. C# has a long history of baffling complexity in terms of tooling and ecosystem. Maybe things

Igalia is the real deal. Many companies that want bugs fixed or features added to web browsers hire Igalia to make those changes. They also maintain WebKit on Linux (gtk and wpe) https://planet.igalia.com/webkit/
