+1, I also don’t understand these tools. Especially these days, many apps are using ~/.config so i barely need a for loop to link everything. I like being able to slap my dotfiles on any box with my only dependencies being `bash` and e

I recall Facebook had a similar rider on the React license for many years until eventually removing it. It’s visually similar to the Apache2 patent clause but not scoped to just the licensed software use

Rust’s big issue here is the anemic standard library. I think overall the strategy makes some amount of sense; since there’s so much crazy alchemy like depending on nightly, no_std, etc in Rust, including stuff in std has more downside in R

I prefer storing plain text and displaying locally preferred syntax, to a degree. With some expressions, like lookup tables or bit strings, hand wrapping and careful white space use is the difference between “understandable and intuitive”

For anyone curious, here's a proof-of-concept of how to implement a <Modal> that manages its own transition out when it's unmounted using just ReactDOM.createPortal and React.useLayoutEffect. https://stackblitz.co

Yes, React’s main idea is f(state) -> UI; but what’s returned from render is a declarative specification of what the UI should be. It’s up to React (and library authors) to make sure the UI ends up as we specify without our app logic nee
