`guard let` is great what’s there to hate? The big problem with swift is “expression has ambiguous type” and “expression took too long to type check”. Those don’t trade in code aesthetics but are problems I’ve never had in another language.

I don’t like it much but it’s the platform look and users definitely notice when you spurn the platform.

This seems great, we are looking for a code sharing language between platforms and the options so far are the Usual Suspects: - TypeScript: we have a few million lines already, but it runs poorly on Android midrange devices. - Rust: very ef

Did you work on any big backbone apps professionally? We had a huge one at Airbnb where after a certain scale any change by anyone - from new grad to expert - could get stuck in 2 days of debugging pure incidental complexity. Change some ui

You can make your tagged template literal return an array of tokens, so the developer gets to write naturally and no one has to deal with parsing. Just use the json stringified token array as the key in your translation map. Here's how

It’s quite common in the affairs of humans to plan recurring work on a schedule. It’s not quite as common to vote on the schedule and how to do it, but at least California seems to be a democracy in this respect.

There's two different approaches to solving sql composability issues: 1. Compiles-to-SQL domain specific languages. This category spans from ORM DSLs embedded in another programming language, like Ruby/Rail's ActiveRecord

Yeah I mean for many real world scale datasets you don’t want to blow the whole context window on a massive markdown file. Instead you can provide a tool that presents the data as a SQLite database. In my testing Claude code seems very capa

That’s probably why tcl is in there, you use uncompiled scripting to orchestrate the native code, which is the part that takes hours to compile.

Yeah but you can pin important pages in RAM with mlock family of syscalls and friends like move_pages for explicit page management. This is what materialize does as far as I understand it.

I would like notion to support this kind of glove making perfectly but right now it’s too slow and high friction to make sense for the domain for most people. Currently it only works for people with huge friction tolerance, and it’s missing

My take is that the right workflow for people is quite varied. Everyone wants something that’s low friction and will keep them engaged but these daily behaviors are fundamentally high friction habits, so existing solutions are rarely satisf

There are systems that move the NIC control to user space entirely. For example Snabb has an Intel 10g Ethernet controller driver that appears to use a ring buffer on DMA memory. https://github.com/snabbco/snabb/bl

Even for a big company like Apple or Google, a 10x increase in public API surface area sounds nuts to maintain in terms of cost but chiefly in terms of time: it will be so much slower to evolve a system once it’s festooned with previously p
