It’s the same as any other intervention to reduce weight. I worked out and ate better for a year and lost 35lbs. Then, I stopped working out, and gained 15lbs. Exercise: no safe off-ramp for some.

I think it really comes down to, do new young users want to use your language? I don't think perl5 vs perl6 scared off those users. I think the language design is outdated for what people want from computers today.

My hypothesis is that as the volume of Perl grew, it became more and more apparent that it wasn't a good idea to write new projects in Perl: - Perl's fascination with punctuation makes it hard to google for stuff, since search eng

For regression testing I struggle to see how a new SQL only test runner improves over a project’s existing testing systems. I think any project using a database should have integration tests that combine testing application logic with their

Yeah but at least the fucked-ness is contained in the app layer and the infra layer can live in a happy and optimized modern world. Also, intricate linkage between an app and the host OS also means there’s more work involved with upgradin

Your original suggestion didn’t sound didactic in nature. I did enough deploying Perl apps that way to consider it a huge waste of time. No thanks!

I don’t understand how you can test Postgres performance in CI or on a developer laptop. Until your tables are large and varied enough, Postgres can ignore indexes and prefer full table scans because it’s faster. Plans depend on statistics

sure i guess if you only want money from adults born in the 80s maybe it seems like an okay idea. abandon the market of humans born after the year 2000, should be fine.

oh, i am interested, but i can’t remember the last time i needed ssh to figure out the issue, or needing to fix a node besides by destroying it. last time it was a silly app deciding to use a host volume on root partition to cache stuff usi

i prefer current era where i never have to ssh to debug a node. if a node is misbehaving or even needs a patch i destroy it. one command, works every time.

People with Linux servers keep getting hacked so idk if I buy the argument “if it’s in use it’s good enough”. That’s like saying “everyone else runs Pentium 2, why would I upgrade to Pentium 3?”

I think the issue with this approach is it’s perfectly reasonable in Fil-C to never call `free` because the GC will GC. So if you develop on Fil-C, you may be leaking memory if you run in production with Yolo-C.

I don’t think that’s how it works. Once an object is freed, any access will crash. You’re allowed to still have a reference to it.
