Very edgy. But you’re not making any sense. The article has a clear message about mob mentality which you’re simply choosing to ignore. It’s an opinion piece, it doesn’t need “truths”. You can disagree if you want, but not discredit it.

Memory use. Even though threads / processes are “cheap” right now, it wasn’t the case in the past and they are still quite far from the couple-of-kbs per connection needed in async servers. You’re not getting a million paralel processe

You might want to review that knowledge. You can spawn a few thousand threads on a modern machine without much contention.

Having commits that do not build represents the history more accurately. It could very well be a “fix” to some build error that silently introduces an issue, that context is lost when you squash.

That’s the point - the choice of a normal distribution is misleading . It doesn’t model market behaviour on any time scale. Backtesting is more likely to be meaningful. Am I missing something here?

> there needs to be a way of getting paid You said you worked on the library at Intel . Doesn’t that qualify as getting paid for your work? That’s not the usual setup when developers talk about getting paid for their OSS contributions,

Where do you take that uniform distribution from? I don’t think any ETF would conform to that.

Reread that comment. He’s saying you would have the option of doing that 40m bike ride, which you don’t have today. For the majority of people that commute will not be a nice ride through the woods, and they can’t opt out.

Everyone is focusing on salaries (my mistake to list it first), but really that’s a minor expense and I have no qualms with people being paid market rates in a non-profit. 90%+ of the cash goes to fund the other foundations’ programmes, tha

The salary aspect is not the worst of it, but the majority of cash that goes to non-Wikipedia funding. For some reason justifying the fairness of a $400k salary gets people more excited than discussing where the other $97 million are going.
