Why all the hate for Apple? This article is about how opinion of Google has soured. My theory is that "Don't be evil" isn't sustainable if society defines "evil" as making business decisions in the interest of self preservation. Society lik

I agree. At some point, when your company gets so big and entrenched, it becomes necessary to make decisions to do what ever it takes to keep the machine running. Some may interpret this as being "evil", but I see it as a natural instinct t

As with other similar industries (music, gaming, movies, etc), the publisher provides the content provider with one VERY vital service: marketing. And if you don't think that's a valuable service, go look at the App Store and tell me how ma

There's a cultural issue here. Real name is the core of Facdbook's success. That's what set it apart from MySpace. The novelty of MySpace quickly wore off after the first few months making fake online friends, but Facebook had your real fri

I can't say I disagree with the author. Even with all its troubles, there's simply too much legacy Java code to abandon. Much like Cobol and Perl, there will always be a need for Java programmers to--at the very least--maintain existing cod

I agree with the author that WB/Razor is a more pragmatic approach to web development on the .NET platform. The author calls it the "git er done" approach and I couldn't agree more. My biggest problem with ASP.NET and WebForms is that it's

The problem with the hidden menu in Android is that Google set a precedent of bad UX by hiding primary tasks in the menu. It's ok to put secondary tasks in a context menu, but primary tasks should be visible at the top level. Desktops hav

Good to see I'm not the only one who thinks this. The App Store app seems like it was hurriedly cobbled together by programmers using dev art with no input or direction from a designer. It violates Apple's own HIG in so many seemingly arbit

The problem is that Apple deprecates their SDK really quickly. As developers, that makes it really tough to test old versions of iOS when installing an updated SDK REMOVES previous versions!! Even if you select an older "OS Deployment Targe

I think because kids nowadays never learned C/C++ like us old timers. Manual memory management trips them up. Obj-C's "weird" object oriented syntax becomes a non-issue in 2 hrs of coding, so it has to be the manual memory management and AP

I would argue that the lyrical quality of poetry comes from the meter and cadence of the words, and not from rhyming. Personally, rhyming poetry sounds goofy to me. Without meter, it's just flat prose. Although I'm sure a good speaker (e.g
