I don’t think you understand what canon is if you think that. Canon is simply internally consistent story telling. It’s agreeing that A follows B and C follows B, etc. It’s agreeing that “A” and “a” are two forms of the same thing, and make

By that metric, I wonder what the PEGI rating is for solitaire and free cell. It uses the same deck of cards as poker without being poker.

But 10-15 years experience has to count for something. Why do senior and principle positions still need to leet code interviews?

This story is crazy because 10 years old is so old! That’s 5th grade! It’s almost old enough to baby sit small children!

Not surprised. It’s an unwinnable argument. However, I stand by my belief that Social Media is a cancer on society. I divide history between “before Twitter” and “after Twitter”. Facebook went to shit when they started copying Twitter.

That’s not a really compelling argument. Facebook is his company. He steers the ship. People are complaining that he’s telling the people rowing the boat to run over people in the water. Whether his hand is on the steering wheel is moot. Se

It makes more sense to add this to Wordpad, but didn’t they kill Wordpad in Windows 11? Keep Notepad simple.

Same reason I don’t like FSD even though as an engineer it’s cool technology: I enjoy driving. It’s like cooking your own meal versus going to a restaurant. I enjoy cooking a lot.

It never gets brought up, but minivans lack ground clearance. When back SUVs were on the rise in the 90s, I remembered higher ride height as a popular reason that was frequently mentioned. That and the arms race of being in the bigger veh

Yeah, it’s a weird take. NYC has extremely high car ownership outside of downtown and midtown. Then add the daily number of cars that drive into the city. More cars is not the answer.

I used to work at a .NET shop. The reason I wouldn’t personally use .NET is MS lock-in. Open source is basically non-existent. Documentation is really bad for getting anything done in a headless way. I don’t enjoy Remote Desktop or running

“Freedom of speech?” You keep using that expression… I don’t think it means what you think it means. You basically want no moderation, but for people to self censor because otherwise it devolves into garbage. That’s still moderation. And th

I agree. I think stripe is complicated because accepting payments is complicated. It’s easy to start a new services that only support the 80% of use cases. Especially if you don’t have to consider fraud or regulatory requirements. But that

Good on ya. I gave a presentation a few years ago on building Promise from scratch and learned a lot in the process. I’ve always wanted to do the same for React.

I’ve done enough freelancing and side jobs to know that I didn’t enjoy and—most importantly—didn’t care enough to get better at the customer service aspect of it.

At least around here (Seattle area), houses built after 2018 seem to be doing exactly this: sidewalks, trees, densely packed SFH, playgrounds and close to shopping. Unfortunately, most housing stock is from the era of poor walkability (aka,

Enjoyed this in upstate New York years ago. Apple orchard started serving pizzas in addition to hard apple cider. The pizzas are great—better than they should be. Now the pizza is the destination. Great concept.
