I totally dislike comparisons of dedicated hosting versus cloud. Especially when they dont factor in any of the costs of the support contract, hardware replacements, etc. involved in supporting physical hardware. He also mentions that there

This article lacks substance. Describe in detail what their setup was, what tweaks they made. Just saying it got slow and they added Cloudflare just makes it a bad article. Everyone knows a CDN can help. CDNs arent a magic bullet though, an

There are benefits to use a CDN, or one of the Google API hosting services. But yes, linking to a copy right on the jquery site, can't be encouraged.

Plenty of services offer unlimited accounts for $5/month. The amount of services offered in a Google Apps account needs to stop getting minimized to just email in this thread as it skews comparisons.

It's worth $50/year per domain. But their pricing is $50/account/year. That pricing is insane.

Comparing a VPS to S3 is apples/oranges. The redundancy/backups/scale S3 provides over a single VPS is very valuable to people. This argument is silly on a post about S3. Yes if you want a cheap webserver to dump things you can get that. Yo

Drudge numbers are inflated now, and this year due to it being an election year and one where the very people they cater to were trying to knock out the President. It's going to grab a lot of traffic from that.

HTML 5 games can show battery status, or warn when the battery is running low. HTML 5 apps can suggest that the user save their work as they are running low on power, to name a few.

What percentages are you seeing of business users still being forced on IE7? I recently worked with a large bank and they are under almost all the way off of it having everyone on IE8-9 and FF ESR Channel. Like always I hope people are usin

I had the opposite feeling of my old mbp. Every OS upgrade seemed to slow down until I got an SSD and more ram in my new laptop. Which is expected to some level. To say it got faster each iteration is a bit of a stretch.

If you build a fan/business page, and get 100 fans. People that enjoy you or your service. Why should you have to pay to promote your posts just to reach those very people that already said they enjoy your company/person/brand/posts. It is

You can use this, many people have reported it does well. I have not used it. https://cloudyscripts.com/tool/show/5 You can also use the APIs to do that S3 copy I mentioned. Here are one of the many write ups of that technique. http://al

They provide pretty good tools already. If you leverage their API and S3 you can migrate AMI's and EBS's across regions quite effectively. Could the tools get better, yes. But it's not as hard as it is often made out to be.

Not it's actually still very slow. Theres a JS demo ever 3 days on HN that runs terribly in FF. Plenty of other 'pushing the envelope' demos do the same thing to FF. To their credit the FF team is usually here, or finds them, and bugs are q

Those comments were in the wrong, and they were posted because parts of the control panel stopped working during the last outage. This was actually due to the throttling of the API, as mentioned in their write up. AWS is resilient enough so
