>Their contention is that they don't need one. Besides, they don't use Java- They use Dalvik and a JVM bytecode-to-Dalvik translator. Google's lawyers are going to have a hard time convincing the jury. Check out Oracle's slides. http:/

here are Oracle's slides. I hate to say, Oracle's evidence are much more convincing. http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/features/opening-slides-1...

The app store is a walled garden. the web (Safari) is not. You get the best of both worlds with iOS without the pain of fragmentation and virus/malware/spyware/etc.

The average user doesn't care if their phone is "open" or not. Having a walled garden is beneficial to 99% of the users. "open" mobile devices (even though they really aren't that open) benefits some developers and users.

Another killer feature would be if Apple offered rewards on purchases on iDevices as an incentive for people to use their iDevices vs. credit cards or cash.

I'm not trying to spin this to make Google look bad. It just looks like that their spending an awful lot of money to arrive at a net income which is almost equal to the amount of money they spent.

On a related note: I really think analysts aren't looking at Google's income statement properly. I don't think Google is doing some kind of financial engineering, but their numbers doesn't look that great if you look closely: 1st Q 2011 GAA

They don't know DCA doesn't work that well because they are not spending money on R&D. I agree they can get a use patent on DCA, as a matter of fact the researcher from University of Alberta already has a use patent on DCA as a cure for
