That's not exactly the description I would go with for a woomera. The woomera is not thrown, and acts as an extension of the arm when throwing a spear. A boomerang is more likely to be used for flocks of birds, so the definitions may h

When I'm in the US I find that with a little practice I can guess it with surprising accuracy. It might help that I have mild synaesthesia so visualising a number line makes it possible to almost see the conversion.

I don't think these opinions are mutually exclusive. I have certainly observed both. Entitled cyclists are very common around the urban area I live, but when I ride to the outer suburbs there's more of a car culture where they peo

I don't feel safe on some of the marked cycling lanes I use regularly, but you're right that it's still a good step toward education and acceptance. There's a marked lane on my commute that I now ride much more carefully

Funny you say that. A previous government introduced the Minerals Resource Rent Tax, but this triggered a propaganda campaign funded by billionaire mine owners, and they lost the next election.

Thanks for sharing this. My brother has had lifelong symptoms like these, and recently discovered that heavy metals, combined with certain genetic factors, may be the cause. In his desperate search for answers he did go a fair way down the

I learned how to use manual transmission when I was 11 years old. We lived out in the country, 35km from the nearest hospital and my Mum burned her hand quite severely late one night. We drove to the hospital with me shifting to whatever nu

Every incident I've had on a bike would have been prevented if this was the case for bike lanes in my city. Just two days ago I had to slap a vehicle to let him know I was about to be crushed between him and parked cars, because he cas

The Australian comparison would be something like the republic referendum in 1999. As a constitutional change, the law required both an absolute majority at the federal level, and a majority in the majority of states. If the Brexit referend

Chicken pecking orders can be brutal. We had multiple flocks for eggs when I was growing up, and they were usually placid but some hens were so aggressive that I wish we had made dinner of them. One in particular systematically pecked to de

I've been trying to remember the name of this game for decades. I also thought it had a HyperCard feel, which inspired me at 12 years old to attempt making something similar. I never completed that attempt, but it was my first serious

The method to find south using constellations is quite easy and useful, once you know how. I imagine it's one reason why the Southern Cross is culturally significant in the southern hemisphere. http://www.abc.net.au/sci

I have recently settled on Shotcut as well. It's certainly not as powerful as the others, but it doesn't have the bugs they have either. So far all my renders have come out as expected as well, which is more than I can say for Kde

Criminals are often not the brightest sparks. My car was stolen last Friday night. It's on a car-share platform so the thief took the lockbox that's normally fitted to the window, bashed it open to get the key, and came back later

I switched from a RAV4 to a Fiat 500. I will admit I sometimes miss the old vehicle, but day to day the Fiat is just so much more enjoyable to get around in. It's quick, agile, and fits in spaces that others won't attempt. On the

I can't imagine how they would manage that in one film. The first book alone feels more like a series, with each episode covering one pilgrim's tale. Then there's the time jump between the Hyperion books and the Endymion book
