I used to work on NonStop. I wish it was better known, if only for the impressive uptime stories that did the rounds among the senior gurus. At least one involved firearms.

When I realised the same office supply place I bought print supplies from could simply do the prints. Or I could use the library, university, or work printers. It ended up being quicker and cheaper to outsource, plus I don't have anoth

I believe it's named after Monty Python, if that counts as people.

It's amazing how much fulfilment I get from riding around natural spaces on an electric unicycle (also works for bikes or whatever but that's what I use now), taking the occasional picture of things I find interesting. I sometimes

This isn't true in my experience. I have ridden through areas like this often, because for some reason my city put one of the main bicycle routes through a busy pedestrian tourist area, full of families and inebriated diners. If you di

I think the anti-life bit was about entropy, but avoided the word for some reason. Could be for simplicity, poetic reasons, who could say.

That explains why our internet is so slow too. Every bit is 50% bigger so we can't squeeze as many into the pipes.

I'm split on this. Personally I never use food delivery for these reasons, among others. On the other hand, I have friends with disabilities who have had a real improvement to their quality of life by making food more accessible.

They certainly aren't as common as they used to be, but I still see them. I think maybe Royal Life Saving Society still do it? Gold Coast apartments are typical properties now. I'll never enter though - not since they sold my deta

It makes them feel important. They could get the same result by pushing for beneficial development, but that's much more difficult. Mostly because of everyone opposing it to feel important.

That can be a technical choice. Protagonists like these tend to be in games aiming for a more realistic art style, in which it's expensive to render convincing hair.

Cycling infrastructure designed by people who don't cycle is far too common. A favourite example I have to deal with often is when the path has to narrow, so they put up signs telling all cyclists to dismount. I pass through a few of t

I've certainly had interviews like that. In fact my first full time job out of uni was one of those and I made the error (in hindsight) of sticking it out until I could transfer into another role. Now I'm much more careful to scre

I wonder if "redditors as a whole" includes visits from external links. I never go to new reddit deliberately, but often end up there via other sources. I also use third party mobile apps more, so there will be plenty of days when

True much of the time, but we can take it too far. For example, we should be very worried about the state of the Great Barrier Reef, but too many of us act like nothing is happening.

I'm wondering if the consulting company I used to work for is behind this. Hardware sales were behind many decisions, because that's where the sales team made commissions.

My commute goes past a velodrome that sits next to a short, steep hill. Every day there were new times on that hill that would be difficult for some cars to achieve. It was pretty obvious that many people forget to turn it off, and never bo

I pulled mine out of storage a few weeks ago to resurrect it as a display for my EUC, and was surprised by it yet again. The fast refresh and good visibility is just so pleasant to use. Rebble was much easier to set up than I had assumed it

There was a time when it seemed like every new device had to have an always-on blue LED. Escaping blue light at night was an effort. These days small white LEDs are in fashion, which I find much more tolerable.

I have synaesthesia and your description of numbers just feels right to me. I have the fairly common association of letters and numbers with colours, which (at least with people I've shared this with) often is stronger up to 10, with f

Wrist guards are really underrated. I do a bit of onewheeling and almost everyone uses them there. Being able to slide out a fall on your wrists means you can keep vital areas away from impact, without destroting your hands. It also helps k

Minced meat pies are so ubiquitous in Australia that we usually just say "pie". "Mince" is nearly always assumed to be animal meat. The fruity kind of pies that only appear at Christmas time are called "mince pies&q
