That's what I use them for. I carry a pocket watch, and wear Levis 501 jeans almost exclucively.

The Apple User Interface Guidelines for the iPad specifically encourages this sort of thing, which I found interesting. The phonebook app is a prime example.

For 3 days, Google Buzz mobile loads, but the Ajax refresh just spins, and never loads new content. Posting also fails. Mail works fine mostly. This is on the iPad.

If you think that Twitter f's developers, then the question is why you are still _developing_ against twitter. If you think Twitter is ffing the _users_, then the question would be more appropriately why you are still using it. Twitters rec

I, with the rest of my team, was laid off in May, and took a few months off to learn iPhone/iPad development. Needless to say I love my current job. I will be sad to have to get a traditional one working for The Man.

Having logged a few hours now in games with controls near the bottom of the screen (dual thumbsticks), I can say that your hands tire out pretty quickly because you have to hold the iPad so that gravity it prying out of your hands. Ideally,

Ha! I had my thumb over the flag link. I think the cartoon addresses an entire class of link bait titles that get posted to HN.

When I worked at Brookhaven National Lab, the sewer system had radiation detectors in it, to ensure there was no improper disposal of radioactive stuff. It was said that it was sensitive enough to detect someone flushing a banana down the t

It isn't like Lamo sold out a fellow hacker; Manning had special access, and probably obtained the leaked information using that, rather than any particular skills. That phone call to Lamo was tantamount to "Hi. You don't know me, but you'r

Unbelievably bizarre that high profile news of suicides at a rate smaller then the demographic norm in China results in the loss of 800,000 jobs.

The meaningless platitude that management uses to describe what they aspire to have their company culture be, is a meaningless platitude. Ancient HR policies and hokey mission statements are no match for a good NERF gun at your side.

I guess I am surprised that the Glider case hinges on the rights surrounding ownership of the client, versus improper use of the server, which is much less ambiguously owned by Blizzard.

The rant is an important traditional form of rhetoric in hackerdom, and this is a fine specimen. Both vitriolic and poetic (Neckbeard 9000!), the point, in case anyone missed it, is: Flash bad.

Windows is surely a better server than OS X. Also, the tool set for web development on Windows is very mature and stable. Google is making a business decision here: it is too expensive for them to support Windows at the level of security th

Quixotic at best. Facebook provides value to two classes of user. There is no question that the individual users derive value from Facebook, but the idea that they're getting it for free is naïve.

One of the benefits of using a process like Scrum, if it has a daily standup meeting, is that if you are being randomized, you just say all the things that you worked on. The team will get the point in short order, and can get it addressed.

The term "open" is starting to suffer the same fate as the term "organic." Soon, your local well-intentioned hacker won't be able to call their software open, because they can't afford to do the federal filing or get the USDS inspection.

This is a pretty good article, written for the lay person. There are, however, a few cringeworthy bits; for example secure hash functions are confused with data encryption.
