I agree about the leverage and small website reasoning, definitely some game-theory related thinking is needed to get something like this right. But it does feel like this enables the "unionization" of websites against scraping gi

To me, it's every day more apparent that democracies are transitioning into mediocracies. Everything is performative, real results do not matter. It's not a coincidence that this administration has a bunch of TV personalities in i

I was thinking exactly the same thing, down to the circumcision thing. This whole discourse gives me the vibe of something the American society has randomly walked on and now is an "it has always been like this".

I am not sure I agree with your take, but one of our era's big questions is whether the economy and/or big enough businesses/industries should be above politics (and the law?). I see the USA and China as extremes in this rega

China was able to build its own IT technologies thanks to decades of protectionism and smart maneuvers from the party. Europe, being under the US "umbrella", was in an almost impossible position to do so, along with the very poor

Indeed, and I encourage others to do the same. I'd rather pay a couple of bucks to make sure my post lands instead of hoping a funny intermediary will consider the post okay. I've got a post that has been pending review by moderat

The way reddit admins operate is madly arbitrary. From experience, I am willing to bet that some subreddit admins or moderators get money under the table from interested parties to look the other way or worse.

Well deserved, RL will only gain more importance as time goes on thanks to its (and neural nets) flexibility. The bitter lesson won't feel so bitter as we scale.

Seems to me the US has been trying to make Taiwan redundant for years, that, along with the most recent events, makes the writing on the wall clear. I think Taiwan will blink first. To me, the hate that China gets from the US elite is just

If skills and knowledge matter less and less because technology and automation grow over time, what matters if not already existing wealth? Might be an hyperbole dictated by the current times, who knows.

This was the investment of the century for the USA. Send old garbage and help with intelligence to weaken a historical enemy, revive NATO, and acquire knowledge on the frontier of warfare. The joke is on the USA, sadly.
