I recall someone once designed an image format which stored (image width - 1), and added 1 to the image dimensions while decoding. That eliminates an edge case, but no clue what would happen with MAX_INT image size...

Why do both Windows and FreeType "faux italic" tilt the font too much for my liking? And why is the "point of zero tilt" at the baseline rather than 25-50% of the way up? This makes faux-italic text appear to be too far

From my own reading experience, I found that individually lit "RGB" clusters tend to be white, wherease "GBR" is fuzzy(?) and "BRG" tends to appear purple on the left but green on the right. This is because the

I think Chrome (PC/Android) implements synthetic bold by expanding the glyph outline, then drawing it with subpixel off. It's prettier than Firefox's "horizontal-only extrusion", but sometimes leads to funny artifac

I prefer e^(i * 2pi) = 1 (or any multiple of i 2pi). 2pi (or tau) is simply a more fundamental constant for nearly all formulas related to trigonometry and DSP (excluding the sinc function).

In my experience with type inference (quite a bit of mypy, now learning rust), inferring local variable types based on what's assigned to it is not very confusing, as long as me or the IDE can figure out what type is being assigned. Bu

Can you provide some actual arguments as to what's wrong with JSON? It's a text format that can be inspected by humans, unlike binary formats. (Maybe IMAP is a text format too, so this isn't an advantage inherently) And JMAP
