Indeed! Overall, I'd even say look more at Japan or Singapore for much better QoS there [0]. Switzerland recently decided to stop German trains on one of their line, because it was too unreliable and was making local trains late.

> The differences between DuckDB and SQLite are just always so large that plotting them together completely hides all other detail. (From your blog post). When values span orders of magnitude, that’s when log plots are useful.

They say they have lots of benchmarks running for it, so it might be a good idea to add a similar benchmark directly to be able to track it? By the way, I like your blog's style! Even the html of an article is clean and readable.

The actual paper is about improving a simulation applied to super capacitors, and is clearer IMO [0]. [0]: https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.2401656121

Speaking of Bazel, I wanted to try it out for a Java project, but it felt a bit more complex than expected. Would you recommend using it even for mono languages projects?

Indeed! The cool animation when bringing phones close together to share contact and data? Well, work 10% of the time for airdrop, but often doesn’t do anything…

This is a pretty in-depth list of steps! I’m amazed! Yet, it makes me feel like the situation is not changing that much on Linux for laptops: most of this should be more automated IMO. An apple silicon MacBook Pro is quite a bit more expens

First of all, congrats on the launch and idea! The UI of the app reminds me a bit of CheckYourLists [0], and I could imagine being able to import lists in the app from a static web server could work nicely. [0]: https://checkyour

I think it’s fair to have generic points to check for a car. Maybe later they’ll add sub lists for each car model/make? From my experience, not knowing anything about cars and what basic things to look for, forums seemed not that great

Now that FFM is being finalised, it should become better supported in GraalVM [0]. Would be interesting to compare the two. [0]: https://www.graalvm.org/latest/reference-manual/native-image...

GUIs aren’t composable with other tools easily. Like, you can pipe CLIs together, and some TUIs accept a command and exit, allowing you to chain things together. On the web, your best bet might be playwright, but that’s about it. Imagine ha

People always complain dev should write more efficient software, so maybe that’s one way! At least, chrome wouldn’t run that many tabs on iPad for sure if it used the same engine as desktop chrome

caddy-l4 still shows: This app is very capable and flexible, but is still in development. Please expect breaking changes. And it does not seem to be really seeing many new commits recently, so it feels pretty much "beta"

I always thought they should be using the flag of the UN to indicate the location of a language selection dropdown, and just list the name of the languages in their native form in the list. But being able to choose the language is always mu

Makes me think that instead of tuning a clock to follow a forest cycle via tree rings extractions, it would be kinda cool to maybe genetically engineer a tree with external display of the past time. One could read a tree optically to found

SQLite EXPLAIN plan is indeed represented as a table, but I don’t find it necessarily that much easier to read and understand. I often miss having the cardinality and the amount of bytes read for each part of the query like Oracle query pla

On linux systems, I was thinking that it would be great if there was a dbus wrapper that outputs all data as json by default. As many things are exposed on dbus (like systemd units, timers, services, etc), and busctl [0] has a --json output

An array of records, or just 1 record per line, also works nicely with jq. For that matter, it can even be imported in like duckdb and handled like a table :)

Intend and purpose? I mean, it sounds so very subjective with no link to research that it matters that much assuming it’s good enough in the first place. Sure, DIN or the typefaces used at the airport to guide pilots are extremely legible,
