MythTV commercial skipping was absolutely magical. I understand at a high level how they did it; there are lots of obvious heuristics you can use for this (black detection, silence detection, observing the CBS logo/bug going away, etc.

I see Expedia as no different from traditional middle-men (travel agents). If I search a flight+hotel deal on Expedia, I can always get the exact same price by booking directly with the airline and hotel, and without the potential hassles
