I'm not saying that implementation doesn't matter. I'm saying that that there isn't a fundamental implementation difference "async" vs "threads". Threads are used in both cases. It's a differen

Huh? I am not a big fan of VSCode (for other reasons [0]), but I have its windows on multiple monitors all the time. Works fine. Can't even understand how a program could stop that working. [0] It chews enormous amounts of CPU and RAM,

The important difference is in purpose, not implementation. Most async runtimes use a thread or more per core, and the OS is doing that thread scheduling, so it's not the either-or situation that you describe. The interesting thing abo

Don't focus too much on the protocol that is used. Leaking the domains of every mail correspondent is a privacy issue regardless of whether it's done via a DNS lookup or otherwise.

Countries with habitual mask usage have flu seasons just like the rest. Has it ever been studied whether it has a measurable impact at population scale? I'm skeptical.

Do you think any laws were broken? I'm not certain. Purchasing a fake degree most likely isn't a crime (passing it off as a real one most likely is, perhaps depending on context). Exporting a piece of paper from Russia is also pro

I feel like these labels don't really help anyone. Everything on the list is stuff anybody should strive to do, except copy-pasting from Stack Overflow ;)

I think it's more of a complaint that the link was posted here; stuff behind paywalls isn't really on the web, after all.

I've been using a new card number for every service for years now, same as passwords. None have been abused yet but if they do, they can only use them with the merchant they're locked to.

That's a wildly extreme example to compare going outside with Covid to. Given that you are incredibly unlikely to kill someone by going out when you have Covid, this is more like going to work when you have a minor respiratory infect

Are there any data on masks to prevent RSV? Even for Covid the data is pretty patchy, and anecdotally they don't seem to be highly effective, at least in actual use. Countries where mask usage has gone from very high to low in a shor

> If you intentionally broke quarantine, knowing you were sick, knowing you could get other people such, yes, you killed that person. That is not controversial. Do you feel that way for all communicable diseases or only for Covid?

I have used HA on and off for years and have the same issues with it. I want to easily understand the config files it is running with, and be able to configure anything by editing these files, and I don't want it writing to the config

I dunno, this take is a bit weird to me. The work we did to support Graviton wasn't "moving" from Intel to ARM, it was making our build pipeline arch-agnostic. If Intel one day works out cheaper again we'll use it again

Yes, I think you're right. And in many parts of Europe, there still isn't much sophisticated discussion about race and racism. (That's my observation as an outsider though; I'm not European.) But pro-BLM is not the same

I think the issue is simpler than the above discussion. I have no idea what to think about BLM. I'm not American, so it's not part of my zeitgeist. I hear all kinds of differing opinions about it from Americans. One thing is clear

Well, yes, but then it wouldn't have been a very good demonstration of why the statement "anything after the `cat file |` can't overwrite the file" is incorrect.
