I had no clue that Pingdom could do that, I use it to monitor availibility, not to compare speed. I feel like PingParade is more a troubleshooting tool than a monitoring tool (this point), ie you use it one shot when you feel like something

This is nice. You may want to share the code in order to set up some more locations. Assuming you implement some rate limit, I am sure that there would be some nice people happy to share some CPU with you.

This creates "abstract" images. A few weeks ago I was looking for a solution to get some more or less random "figurative" images to use as a background image (I fade the image a lot, so that is does not come too obstruisive). Alas I could n

I am cross posting a comment here that I posted on TC, this is an experiment to help me compare the reactions, sorry for the potential inconvenience. 2 things: A) Don't under estimate the power of software. It is obvious that I have full ac

Do search engines actually try to "de duplicate" such content? Are sites that duplicate content without proper attribution properly flagged? What is the best interest of search engines? Is it the good of the people? Or is this another "trag

To make scrolling slightly easier, I implemented a jQuery thing that provides a visual clue to delimit the new content from the old one. I haven't seen anything like that before, yet it feels like obvious to me. You see the effect here: ht

To debug my wiki engine, I did some experiment with RFCs. RFCs as wikis: http://simpliwiki.com/yours/SomeRfcs This is an other definition of "usable" I guess. I added an orange visual cue when scrolling, to make it easier to spot where ne

I wonder what is the proportion? What are the probabilities that, as a reader of Hacker News, you are 1/ a software developer, 2/ been bullied That might be enough data to qualify the correlation between having been bullied and being a soft

You design your application as if it were to run in a server but... but... it runs in the client. Nice idea. I wonder how this could interact with a nodejs implementation on the server side.

Note, http://github.com/onilabs/apollo/blob/master/oni-apollo.js This might be the implementation of StratifiedJS, but it displays as a long, half minified, 92kb line of code... not ver readable like that.

That they had to be reminded about credits tells something. OTOH, that they added the credits tells something too. This is so Darwinish!

Simplicity wins. Very nice indeed. Privacy can be an issue if the secret url leaks. Maybe a visit count/log (to detect leaks) and a (change) option (to get a new url and close the previous one).

Being potentially border line asperger my self, I can confirm that the better ability to systematize and focus long hours is a plus to develop software. It's not so useful to develop a family however (kidding). http://simpliwiki.com -- be
