Dictatorship means total authority over a domain. EU is so very far from that. If anything it’s the opposite of dictatorship. The federal EU institutions are mostly toothless with respect to the nation states.

Ha, interesting. I'm used to road-bike prices, and I also know what cargo bikes can cost, so when I read "ridiculously expensive", I imagined they cost like a cheap used car, not less than €1k... All depends on context.

In the end, someone has power over the things in the real world, like releasing a version of the software or purchasing stuff. So everyone involved has to trust that someone at the least.

I'm a scientist too, in computational chemistry. To me, releasing the research code that accompanies a paper is an imperative. Increasingly, journals or individual (peer) reviewers demand it. It's essential for reproducibility. I

This is an impressive piece of work. It’s not a complete breakthrough like AlphaFold was for protein folding, but it’s a major step in a field that has been arguably rather stagnant. There were previous attempts at this (machine-learned den

In the end it’s about %FTP for a certain time. For me, 230 km at 25 km/h is ~50% FTP for 9 hours. If I were to ride at 90% FTP for multiple hours, which I think is at the border of what's humanly possible, I could do ~33 km/h

Endurance is not really about general fitness, but about adaptation to a specific activity, road cycling in this case. I’m an amateur, not serious cyclist, did 15k km in past 5 years. I’m not particularly fit (10km run in ~1 hour). Longest

If installing Poetry wasn’t an option, deploying a frozen set of dependencies should be still relatively easy with plain ”pip freeze” and “pip install -r”.

To run code developed with Poetry, you shouldn’t even know it’s developed with Poetry. It should be released as a source distribution or a wheel on PyPI or as a conda package if it contains nontrivial binary extensions. These distribution

Excellent points. I wonder if that’s why of all contemporary art, I’ve truly only enjoyed political art. There is no doubt there about representation and the power behind.

It is a problem at higher speeds (>40 km/h) so in sprints or more typically in downhills. In downhills live data aren’t really that useful. If it showed a live map, that would be very useful.

You can learn a new foreign language when you’re 20. But it’s way easier when you’re 10 or 5. Same goes for learning to play chess, to code, and more broadly, for learning to learn.

I think this distrust in democracy as a system to elect representative people to legislate and govern is widespread and to a certain degree based on facts, but also deeply worrying. In a way it signifies a failure of democracy.
