Good post. I solved my mongo full text search problems 2 weeks ago using Ruby's Sunspot gem http://outoftime.github.com/sunspot/ . I walked through this tutorial http://masonoise.wordpress.com/2010/02/06/using-sunspot-for-... on using S

Not only was an MBA not a requirement for writing the article, the knowledge has been around for ages. My grandfather taught the principle to me. He was born in 1889 and his "formal" education ended at age 11.

Sounds like you've never lived in a communist country; where the government decides there shall be one and only one marketplace for a certain set of goods/services. You are severally missing the point of the problem with Apple's App Store.

I've been down the full text search path a few times; never fun, too many compromises and too much work. Just last week I used Sunspot solr http://github.com/outoftime/sunspot for a new site and wow, what a breath of fresh air. Its the

Where are they located? Are there benefits to the location, such as fair treatment of IP disputes? It would be nice to have a server hosted in a place where the ISP only unplugs you after a court decision, not before.

I don't see this as a cat fight. People using online backup services are being sold "security". Not all users care about, much less understand, security to the extent that user of tarsnap do, but users should know if a product's marketing

Wow, that is a sweet deal. Thanks for posting jacques. I can't imagine a startup idea I may have that requires that much disk space, but it may set the mind turning to know the option is somewhat affordable.

Yep, I was lucky and got sucked into one club my first year, which led to another, and another (all nothing to do with my studies). It was very rewarding and my closest friends from college (20 years later) are the ones from these extra ac

I agree with your general recommendation. Go to College..period. A good University will do wonders for a curious person. If the OP doesn't know why he needs to go, that's all the more reason he needs to go...and if the studies are not ch

For me, not owning my own server as a serial entrepreneur is like a graphics design consultant not owning a mac. Or a mechanic without four extra cars in his backyard. I'm sure Heoku is a great deal if you don't have the sysadmin skills.
