> Optional static typing or a "loose syntax mode". This sounds like what TypeScript offers with the `any` type: you can use it to shut down the type system at a given point and then gradually replace loose types with stricter

If it's so easy to build a coding tutorial website, then what advantage does Codecademy have beyond name recognition? So you're not competing with their tech, you're competing with their marketing. You say bad taste, I say go

Good points. Poke any abstraction enough and you will find holes in it. However, the question I was originally responding to was asking if same-level-of-abstraction-ness was fundamental to the definition of a transpiler. I would still argue

It's all relative, sure, but we can also reasonably assert that Python, Ruby, Java are all operating on the same level of abstraction because we as programmers can largely ignore the details of the computer architecture of the machine

A transpiler is typically converting from one high-level language to another. Assuming that the level referred to by the phrase "high-level language" is level of abstraction, then yes.

Symfony is a great project, I just feel like, in comparing it to Django, there are so few people who would choose PHP over Python that it's not really a fair fight.

I guess I see what you're saying, but shouldn't it be evident which function got called based on the next stack frame up? When I look at stack traces I guess I'm usually just trying to figure out the sequence of calls so that
