Why is this marked 2017? This is the newest chapter of a book that isn't finished yet, and was released literally today. It couldn't be more (2019) if it tried!

The W3C gets 0 credit for any of the cool tech you're talking about. Basically all of the good work for browser standards gets done by the WHATWG which is essentially just the browser makers and a few other large and concerned tech co

Right, but in one case hundreds are dead and in the other case we made a physics discovery 15 years later. Not sure if this is the bullet-proof equivalency you think it is.

I don't want to get into the weeds discussing the ins and outs of the various things that have happened with RMS and the FSF. I have my own opinions on whether or not these moves were warranted. Separate from that I guess my largest w

You expect them not to kick someone for supporting gay rights but even that might be a bridge too far for Blizzard. They made a big fuss about having the character Tracer be gay, but that only happened in a comic book and in Russia Tracer i

R6RS was the one that really sparked the divide, and for a long time only had a limited number of implementations due to this controversy. The big thing that R6RS brought, in my opinion, was a syntax for creating modules and sharing them.

This assumes that starting up a competitor is frictionless and has zero-overhead. If the market which is now dominated has a large enough barrier to entry the monopoly can temporarily return to their loss-making tactics to starve you out. C

This is just off the top of the head spitballing, but what about this as a definition: A tech company is a company who could not continue their business in largely the same fashion if computers did not exist. Is Uber a tech company? Well I

We'll see what happens after the election, but the current government literally paid billions of dollars in order to EOL those coal plants by 2030, ahead of schedule. So the previous commenter isn't giving the whole story.
