Man, that’s rough. I hope you’re doing well! Totally agree with you on the line-item point. My point there was that if a 50% RIF is in the works, the people who haven’t figured out how to become more efficient using AI would be more likely

I feel exactly the same. On the other hand, the “speed up my work a lot” part is important, and shouldn’t be overlooked. Like, if someone reads this article and figures they don’t need to learn to use AI for their coding job, that’s the wro

Advocate or not, it’s here to stay. And if you’re not adjusting to it, you’re doing yourself a disservice. Last week I did the amount of work that would’ve taken me give or take a month. A significant part of it was writing an API client fo

But what else could they say? “Yeah, we’re fucked now that the US is turning into a dictatorship and a Russian ally!”? That’s a fast track to those kill switches being deployed on hardware delivery.

Right. So Canada needs a nuclear deterrent in order to _not_ become the 51st state.

Yes! Exactly this. Many years ago I got this epiphany that “it’s just another kind of interface”. Specifically to me as a system. In this day and age I’m not even convinced anymore that I’m not actually just some kind of an elaborate fine-t

Please no. It's good that tech conversations are global. I wish there were more Chinese and Russians on here, not less. And this comes from someone who's very critical of the current US admin, and lives in the Baltics. Also, pleas

Technology-wise this is a solved problem. Uses open-source software too. All the EU needs to do is say 'self-custody is fine, please use a EUR-based stable coin for payments EU-wide'. The market will do the rest (the stable-coin,

What kind of “peace” though? The kind of peace that Bucha got when it was under occupation? Murder of civilians, torture chambers, rapes? Do you even have the slightest idea of the humanitarian catastrophe that this “peace” would be for Ukr

It’s not. Here in Europe we’re all very frustrated with the situation. It’s just crazy that our most trusted ally has gone bat-shit crazy.

This is just crazy. The speed at which the US reputation gets burned is simply mind blowing. Americans might think that nobody pays attention, but everyone does. The Finns are already evaluating how to do without weapons systems that the US

I’d be happy if the US policies these days were based on _at least_ an HN comment. A typical HN comment does a much better job of considering at least some of the caveats and trade-offs than a POTUS Truth Social post. EDIT: Thinking about i

I don’t know. But I don’t think that matters to the discussion. The world is a much different place these days. A lot more connected. Also, most of that emigration was more like “famine-drain”.

I wouldn’t worry about this too much. Brain drain, despite the name, is not really a zero-sum game. The people who move rarely lose all contact with the host country. They gain invaluable experience, know-how, and contacts that some of them
