You're largely making the point I was raising. For your specific example though, I'm not so sure. As a counterexample, I buy my eggs direct from a local farm, not in a store. Neither the ease of availability nor the price of the e

That's exactly my point. In other words, the threat model people should be worrying about isn't "bare shelves due to no goods from China to stock them" but rather "bare shelves because the entities who make the good

I both agree and have been worried that this is overly reductive. As far as I can tell, literally nothing that I buy regularly is directly sourced from China. Or anywhere other than the US & neighboring countries. The vast majority of m

Yeah. I've been doing Spanish on Duolingo for about 2.5 years, and just started Section 5. I find that I can read Spanish reasonably well, in that I can usually at least work out what the underlying meaning is for any arbitrary piece o

Do they have a version that's not a mobile app? Or will it at least work on the desktop/web browser? I'm not going to use something like that on my phone.

This is incredibly naive. How can you possibly know the source of every component and raw material in what you're buying? "Made in USA" *at best* translates to "assembled in the USA"

I pretty much never use their algorithmic feed. I've switched to going in, selecting `feeds` and then `friends`. There's usually at most a half dozen posts per day. I also belong to some groups, but I'll go to them directly

This is the right answer. You should be able to identify at least one positive lesson you learned from every situation. Talk through what you learned and how the experience made you a better employee going forward. This not only avoids the

Same, except it goes back 30 years, but it sucks when that one time comes up. I'm not suggesting one becomes a wizard. I'm suggesting understanding basic commands.

It is worth knowing pure vi to some extent. To the point you raise, it's pretty much guaranteed to exist on any system you're on. That's not true of anything else, even vim

Also one can't ignore that the GOP managed to remarked the CHIPS act as a key source of inflation, which they also managed to pin on "Bidenomics". Which was another source of "vibes, basically"

The other day I saw the results of a poll [1] where 80% of Americans thought the *country* would be better off if more Americans worked in factories. However, only 20% of Americans thought that *they* would be better off if more Americans w

That is indeed what I'm saying. I treat social media more like I treated Usenet back in the day. To me that's a superior model than the influencer model.

Yes, the scale is a huge part of it. If some program has a $1mil budget and you were to tell me that 25% of it was wasted. Well who cares? $250k in the US budget is a rounding error on a rounding error. But if you were to tell me that 25% o
