If a comment from Jobs about the latest release of Apple's product leads you to hate humanity… well let's just say you're going to have trouble with society in general. There is far worse. It wasn't that particular comment I was referring

Aaaand we've come full circle again, where people start to realize that Apple is, like Microsoft, a gigantic company that doesn't care about anyone. Maybe we can all move to open-source platforms, so that we can fill the Blogosphere (tm) wi

Do you wear a jacket to keep you warm or because it says Prada on it? Did you go to school to get a piece of paper, or to learn something? The analogy doesn't quite hold. You make it sound as if all educational quality is the same, and yo

Now, I took a PL course before my working career, so I don't have a frame of reference, but does it really make a difference? Most people judge a language by a) what the syntax looks like and b) what other people say about the language. I

Wow. How on earth do these people not sack up, tell their boss to diaf, and walk out the door? Because honestly, if you allow people to use you like a punk, stop whining when they do. At will employment works both ways. From the article:

Doing my own thing in languages I like using was what made me enjoy it. What you're doing now sucks. HTML and CSS are boring to write and, IMO, are better suited to being generated by a program than being explicitly written by hand. Vanilla

It's too late to start programming when you decide it's too late. Pick a language. Python is easy to learn and rewarding. Grab a book. Write some code!

Sounds like Wolfram speak to me. Did you ever get a chance to read any of his book, A New Kind of Science ? The basic idea was: - take a bunch of existing CS theory - spin it into elaborate framework, supported by what is basically just a

Lisp is blub. Compared to some things, yes. For instance, I think the type system of Haskell (combined with its purely functional nature) is a powerful abstraction technique not present in most languages. I'd like to hear what you think i

1) Specify which Lisp you're talking about. "Lisp" in and of itself most generally means a family of languages, making the submission title sorta worthless. 2) Assuming you mean Common Lisp, it isn't purely functional. You can do imperative

You seem to be getting confused about the relationship here. No, I'm not. Getting a payment from someone is very different to trying to get something for free from a company, or trying to get acquired. You promise the company payment. T

I personally use the two week rule. If someone says they'll get back to me in a few days I give them a couple weeks before I e-mail a reminder. Oh, right. I forgot that in the business world, words suddenly don't have any fucking meaning

Further, does he think the software engineer has nothing to do but work on this project with him? No, but when he explicitly promises something, and then doesn't deliver, it's more than fair for him to e-mail until that demand is met.
