Bazel has been embedding Java for a year or so now. There's no need to concern the host environment with installing the JRE anymore. As a user, the fact that Bazel is written in Java is transparent.

Good suggestion! Without the fsmonitor enabled at all that looks more like 400ms on my iMac Pro.

Fantastic suggestion! I will give this a go soon. https://github.com/facebook/watchman/tree/master/rust/serde_...

Thanks for the explanation, indeed watchman does all the heavy lifting! I will submit it to the mailing list, I'd love to see it in git core.

Yes, the Perl is very short, and has more comments. I missed the Perl era so it was a bit of work for me to figure out how it worked enough to implement it in Rust.

It is not enabled by default yet, since it depends on an external tool to provide repo file update events. Git has one bundled that uses Facebook's watchman (with homebrew if you've installed it like so), but you have to configure

In my benchmarks it's about twice as fast as the reference Perl script monitor. Also just a quick exploration for me into Rust. https://github.com/git/git/blob/v2.16.0/templates/hooks--fsm...

Legible? Absolutely. But it's important to keep in mind that CTE's are optimization fences. Optimizations like predicate pushdown are not currently available. More complicated queries may benefit from being rewritten with subqueri

I don't understand all the hate for Objective-C, and at the same time love for Ruby. Objective-C is far easier to read, with named parameters and types everywhere. Ruby is often so minimal that you need to interpret the whole program yourse

I would be very disappointed to be able to recreate the scenario you describe. 'Delivered' should mean that the distributed transaction was 'committed', aka Alice has committed Bob's message :)

i think that might be outside the scope of what parse is trying to provide. 'lazily loading' images is fairly involved...even more so if you want to persist them into a http cache of sorts.

i don't see any reason to 'sign' a request over HTTPS if you're going to implement authentication. hmac / signing makes sense if you can't afford the overhead of SSL, and don't mind exposing the request to a man in the middle / eavesdropper
