Some people think the definition of migraine is "very painful headache". This is wrong. Migraine is a class of very specific neurological events, usually involving one side of the head (hence the name migraine, which comes from the Greek he

Long-term sufferer of reactive arthritis here. Had a pretty nasty case of food poisoning four years ago, and to my surprise, was in widespread pain days later. I still deal with symptoms today, and will likely continue to do so for the rest

I hear this exact message a million times on Hacker News: a speech from an entrepreneur discouraging others to be like him/her... unless they are really serious about it. This is played to the point of cliche. For once, I'd love to see an a

I agree with you. My point was that a reverse proxy that does not speak SPDY on the outside would suffer from head of line blocking.

Yes, keep-alive does confer many advantages of SPDY. But it does not solve head-of-line blocking.

Yes, this could totally work in SPDY.

SPDY wouldn't just help on an isolated benchmarkable level; if the Internet en masse significantly decreased the total number of TCP connections, there would be a benefit to the herd. Congestion control would just work better. It's hard to

I'm not sure if that's one of the most important parts of SPDY. Multiplexing multiple streams over one TCP connection and differentiated quality of service (some streams have higher priority than others) still work perfectly in this kind of

I am not talking about any APIs in JS or any "implentation in JS". JS, the language, as specified, is wrong at the core. It has a lot of insensible semantics. It's not even at a local maximum. I could just write a list of 10 changes to the

So, what's fundamentally wrong with JS? Not a lot. At this point the article lost all credibility with me.

The guy in that talk is the principal investigator of the study. But it has nothing to do with HFCS in particular, and everything to do with added sugar in general. Sugar made from cane and beets is just as bad as HFCS.

You could have multiple hosts on the internal network appear to the outside world as the same (IP, TCP Port) tuple because they are connected to external different addresses. To illustrate, let's say my network's external IP address is X. L

You get a lot more than 2 bytes, because your NAT tables can map both sender and receiver (IP, TCP port) tuples to a connection.

undefined and null are quite different. It's impossible to test for undefined. You cannot expect (x == undefined) to return true. It would result in exception, in fact. You can only safely make a value undefined if you guarantee it won't be

It's not null that's the issue, it's that everything is nullable by default (and there is no way to statically guarantee something non-nullable). OCaml and Haskell are not-nullable by default, and things that are nullable have an extra laye

I imagine this optimization can only happen once escape analysis is performed. In the general case, address-of moves the data to the heap, or causes it to be stored on the heap in the first place. Correct?
