This is actually what inspired Temporary Note. My thinking was to recreate this on a domain with a few simple features on top; adjustable font size, dictation, monospaced font, fullscreen, etc.

Hi HN! I realize there's no shortage of note-taking apps, but I wanted to make one where you don't need an account, don't need to download an app, and your notes won't be sync'ed to the cloud, etc. I used to use Win

They won't have to worry about raising capital or getting access to GPUs, and they've likely been promised a high degree of autonomy, almost certainly reporting directly to Nadella.

Perhaps part of the problem is that when some people say OpenAI they mean the non-profit parent of the for-profit, and when other people say OpenAI they mean the for-profit subsidiary of the non-profit.

Google pay other browser vendors significant amounts to be the default search engine. If any browser were too far ahead of Chrome on blocking advertising, wouldn't Google care substantially less about being the default search engine on

I haven't been following too closely, but as far as I know, MV3 is coming to pretty much all browsers, including Firefox. https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2022/10/31/begin-your-mv3-mi...

Right, but it opens up a small page element that isn't very aesthetically pleasing to read from, and feels fairly useless.

I could've sworn I had seen a Google/YouTube announcement somewhere that there was going to be readable/searchable transcripts coming. Is it what's already been rolled out? The current YouTube transcripts seem almost use

Based on Meta's other products, I've already decided I don't want to be on Threads. Facebook & Instagram content is too mind-numbing for me to imagine that Meta want to have a decent level of discourse on their platforms.

Sure, but it's been known for a long time that models can have these types of weaknesses & biases. They can be tested for & ironed out. If you ask the same questions to ChatGPT you tend to get much more refined answers.

It was the first question in the thread, and I've been testing queries along these lines on it for a while. Interestingly, it started writing a response initially and then replaced it with that. It used to refuse to answer who Donald T

Sounds like that's the only person it has been tested on, though? Subheadline says he's the first patient. Toward the end of the article it says there will be six new patients next year. Feels like breakthroughs often happen far m

On Facebook I get ridiculous amounts of crypto scam ads falsely claiming to be associated with Elon Musk or his companies. I think even simple text based filters could catch them. It's been happening for years. I keep thinking surely t

It depends on how it's done, doesn't it? If it's presented as a relevant result, it doesn't seem so good. If it's presented as "you might also be interested in" then it seems better.

Luckily there's a lot of food delivery apps. Make being less annoying a point of competition. Pick the least annoying ones and uninstall the others.

A lot of comments here seem to be written by people who are already beyond their 20s or 30s. Is there an equivalent of HN or Reddit for that people in their 20s are more likely to be using? If it's just Instagram, SnapChat and TikTok,

Uber, Lyft and other delivery companies require a human to be making the delivery. That's the whole point about why this has potential to be more economically sound.

You can also set your default search URL in your browser to use Verbatim. Result quality can still be a bit underwhelming, but searching without Verbatim feels like going back to the 1990s.

Would be great if products could indicate being "offline capable". I am pretty sure that many robot vacuums don't require internet access, but it's often unclear whether it's optional or required.
