Handling Unicode and input is not anything that breaks any design. Mentioning Electron to solve Unicode is like thinking about a bulldozer when you need to unclog your toilet.

Nobody is saying Godot should implement their own text engine. There are several available ones they can use, or just pick whatever the platform offers. > Why would you want to render text in a gaming engine in the first place ... Just a

I assume they are simply talking about fixing the bias. Instead of randomly picking from the 4 sides, pick one from the set of legal moves.

I can try to guess a few: - Bloat... Both are extremely heavy dependencies if you want "the real deal" vs a stripped down version that looks like Python or JavaScript. - Performance too. Python is slow. JavaScript too, unless you

Assuming that is true, it is an oversight. There is no actual technical limitation. I am confident if Godot sees usage as a GUI/app framework, they will take care of that.

The person you are responding to is talking about an actual IDE, not an extension to VS Code. rust-analyzer is great and we have waiting for it a long, long time. But it is not an IDE. Neither is the MS C++ extension.

It is the same for cargo, npm, pip, C++ managers and other languages. Usually a single line does it in all of them, either in the shell or in a config file. I call FUD.

> Cargo works fine with private repositories So does any of the main package managers for C++. > had an easier time with it That is an empty argument. Not to mention Rust is only now in 2020 starting to get actual IDE support. For C++

This keeps being repeated and repeated and it is just a myth. Even without a package manager adding dependencies manually is quite easy for the vast majority of popular libraries. With a manager it is the same as cargo. I assume you are tal

> Does the case for C++ in 2020 still exist? The question is the opposite: you have to prove to managers the benefit overcomes the risk of using a new language. Rust is still not nearly stable nor popular enough for many fields. Go is a

C++ modules have been a thing for a long time even if the standard is being presented this year. It is not a C++ idea anyway, older languages have had similar facilities.

Which license change? Last year? Blender technical and financial situation has changed very much since then. Last year was the transition period to the new UI, new renderer and everything else. 2.80 was not polished at all. Since then they

That sounds like a development nightmare like the one of the IE6 era, and even worse for supporting customers. Basically you are saying code performance is nondeterministic across your user base and across time too? I am glad WebGL is a t

What are you doing with Python that somehow this would help at all? I am really curious, specially given there are many other languages out there to move to vs js.

However you put it, tooling support is way, way better for C and C++ for obvious reasons. Other critical bits for commercial development in many industries (certs, standards, third-party support, official bindings...) are also completely la

If you are really performance concerned, you wouldn't use Python to begin with. That said, there are many use cases where performance does not matter as long as it is not "too much", for different values of "too much&quo

That depends on what you are building with the language. There are a lot of use cases outside web apps in Python. The majority of them, I'd argue.

I would expect an attitude towards efficiency, driven by measurements and objectivity, engineering and professionalism, not a reckless, for fun, why-not, hype-based one.
