I think part of the angst centers around the bit where the markup is going to change. Lots of apps for HN that scrape the UI rely upon the current site to enable things like voting and other signed-in-only actions, for which there is (curr

Something like this? IIRC this would've worked 4 months back: gulp.task('copy', function() { return gulp.src('src/foo/**/*').pipe(gulp.dest('dest/foo')); });

Wholeheartedly agree. But it'd be good if the surfacing of title/url moderation were automatic rather than reliant upon the mod's (current) good behavior.

Maybe it's as simple as having a changelog on titles. If a mod changes the link or title, you could show something to indicate that on the frontpage, and on the comments page show more details like what the original link/title wa

I'm impressed by the resolution at which some of these paintings have been scanned. I'd love to hear more about this process - is it a custom scanning rig? A Gigapan-style pan/tilt DSLR? I'm wondering how they would sca

That was poorly phrased... In my mind, I meant it in a "sadly it's too often that the human making the mistake gets blamed, rather than the systems that didn't have appropriate safeguards to make said mistake non-trivial"

It's great to see a postmortem with this level of detail, fairly quickly. It's also great to see Joyent hang the blame on the system that allowed rebooting every server, and the poor recovery from that failure, rather than contin

Agreed, I would've just base64-encoded a GUID and been done with it, but it was clear that the author nerd-sniped[1] himself and couldn't put it down until he'd come up with a solution. [1] As always, relevant XKCD: http:&#x

Email notifications are universal. Many disparate services all can push out transactional emails, which are then aggregated in one place. To replace email, you would need to create something which is as universally adopted. Good luck!
